I didn't like this book at all. One of the main reason was because in the middle of the book, the hero cheats on the heroin after that I just couldn't forgive the hero for that therefore couldn't enjoy the book. I don't want to read about a cheating spouse and the hero's reason was so stupid too. What piss me off was that he excepted her to forgive him easily but yet in the end when the hero thinks heroin cheated/betray him towards the end of the book, he banishes her from their home; furthermore her hits the heroin for betraying/cheating him, which made me hated him even more. I also felt the ending was too rushed. I mean the conflict with that one guy (can't recall his name) was finished too fast and easily. The only only good thing I can say about this is that I like Martin's style of writing and I think she is very talented.

Bold Angel" is the story of Caryn, the daughter of a slain saxon lord in an Noram conquered england, and Ral, a Norman lord who now holds Caryn's father's land. Caryn was living in a convent when she's taken by lord malvern, Ral's rival, to Ral's holdings. Ral proposes that she marry him to save her from Malvern and so the story goes.
Caryn is a fiery herione who follows the mold of petite leading lady for the bigger than life hero. It's an endearing match that leads to some interesting problems. This story is laced with conflict but it's more the emotional kind than any real actions.

I found myself agreeing with both reviews that said this was a great book and those that said it had little action. Though Ral is a warlord of sorts the story mostly centers around Caryn and her relationship with Ral. This actually reminded me of a julie Garwood story in that respect. But this absence of violence didn't really detract from the story. Ral and Caryn's relationship is entertaining enough in itself with each one fighting desire for the other and both turning out to be passioante caring people.

The secondary characters are compelling and are there to move the story along and add perspective rather than detract from the story or set up a sequel...though i would love to read Odo's story, ah well can't have everything.

This is a nice work that is an enjoyable read...check it out but don't expect some sweeping war drama it's a little bit more fluff than that...it's a romance work. you know love and opptimism and all :)

Kat Martin does a great job of developing characters with romance, different backgrounds and suspense. Great read.

I've read better books by Kat Martin. I give this a one star because it was really drawn out and some of the stuff in there were unnecessary (for instance, he HAS to claim her to be his fiancee in order to 'rescue' her from Lord Malvern?) Seems a little extreme, although I do realize this is set in the Ancient Ages. Some of the girl's antics are ridiculous, tiresome, annoying, and very childish (isn't she supposed to be 18 or something?) Kind of hard to tell with her childish games. I can understand the need to be independent and stuff, but setting out on your own with no plan or anything is beyond careless. Throughout the book, she's known to be stubborn and willful, but then towards the end, she just gives up and doesn't even stick up for herself when her husband accused her of betraying him? That's quite a radical change! I could go on, but no time. I've spent too much time on this book already!

A knight for King William, Raolfe de Gere first met Caryn of Ivesham in the forest near her home. Ral instructs Caryn, and her little sister, to go right home, that their is fighting in the area and it is not safe for them to be out. Ral will always feel guilty for not seeing the girls home, when he later discovers that other knights have raped the younger sister and beaten Caryn while they were on their way home. Ral and his men take the girls to a local convent and he doesn't see Caryn again for three years. When next they meet, Caryn has been taken prisoner by Ral's enemy, Stephen de Montreale. In order to save her Ral announces she is his betrothed. Neither wanted to marry, but Ral agreed to a name-only marriage until Caryn was ready to accept him. Ral had been disillusioned by love years before when he fell for Stephen's sister and she made a fool of him by sleeping with her brother. Caryn believes that it was Ral's men who attacked her and her sister years before, and despite her desire to exact revenge, she is unable to go through with it. The plot thickens as others threaten the fragile relationship Ral and Caryn try to build. Stephen is at the root of all evil, and until he is properly dealt with, the two won't stand a chance for happiness.Ms. Martin's first medieval is written with all the talent, creativity and warmth of her previous novels. Her readers will wish she had gone back in time long ago! A stunning achievement for such a talented author! What a treat - the pen of Kat Martin bestowing her talent on the readers of the much loved genre of medieval romance!

From the back cover...

They were enemies in a divided land...
Saxon beauty Caryn of Ivesham longed to escape the chill gray cloisters of the convent to which she'd fled-but not in marriage to the towering, feared Raolfe de Gere, the Norman knight they called Ral the Relentless. Even though he had once saved her from a fate worse than death, she could not forget he's raised the grim battlements of Braxton Keep on her dead father's lands or that his men had dishonored her sister. If she wed him to bring peace to her people, he would have to lay siege to her bed.

But their destiny was more powerful than the lash of swords.
The darkly handsome warlord's blood coursed with desire for Caryn's burnished crimson lips, and his [assion would not be denied. But in the wild ecstasy they shared, Ral feared more than his heart was in danger. Could his rebellious bride be a traitor deadlier than the wolves and brigands prowling deep in the English forests?
