I have read several JW Hall books and this one was my favorite so far. It was hard to put down, all I wanted to do was read, read, read. This is not a "Thorn" novel. It has a nice twist at the end.

James W. Hall's Body Language is a so-so thriller with a complex plot line centered around a woman, Alexandra, who as a young teen takes revenge on the neighbor boy who rapes her by killing him with her police officer father's gun. The father covers up for her and then later in life she finds herself taking care of her early-onset Alzheimer's dad while she juggles that occupation with her job as a crime scene photographer for the Miami PD and her own difficult marriage. A serial killer wreaks havoc in the Miami area...leaving his victims in poses which he knows Alexandra will have to photograph. Not much in the way of 'surprises' here even as the cast of characters grows and complicates things, but Hall is a good enough writer to keep things moving along nicely, tying all the seemingly unrelated activity together for a good 'photo-finish'.

Eighteen years ago, a girl shot down a rapist while her father's lawnmower sputtered in the yard outside. Somewhere in the heat and shadows of that day, Alexandra Rafferty took on the burden of her deed, and forged a bond of silence with her cop father. But now Alexandra's husband has left her, her father is clinging to his health, and a Miami serial killer is leaving behind death scenes that go beyond the forrific. For Alexandra, her life and work are exploding-exposting the truth about the killer she seeks, the lover she's choosing, and one summer afternoon that has never gone away...

This was a new author for me and I liked his work.
