The Body Artist
Author: Don DeLillo
For thirty years, since the publication of his first novel Americana, Don DeLillo has lived in the skin of our times. He has found a voice for the forgotten souls who haunt the fringes of our culture and for its larger-than-life, real-life figures. His language is defiantly, radiantly American. — Now, to a new century, he has brought The Body Art...  more »

Not sure what to think of this one! This was a very short novel written in dense, sometimes impenetrable prose. I didn't really care too much for the characters and whether or not "Mr. Tuttle" was real, imagined, or Rey reincarnate. Overall, for a short novel, too many words and not enough plot.

I liked this book for the very reason that the author's writing caused me to stretch my concept of reality and shape it around a different setting.

This was interesting, although I wouldn't call it the "profoundly moving" novel that the cover review claims. Lauren was a very interesting character though.

This novel tells the story of an artist in the days following the suicide of her husband. Finishing out the lease of a rented house on the coast, Lauren discovers a mysterious man in the upstairs bedroom who verbatim can repeat conversations she and her husband had before his death. He does not seem to know his own name or where he came from. Is he real or a figment of her imagination? The book is a short 125 pages but illustrates the eerie and disturbing symbolisms in life.

This is a very quick read, but one that sticks for awhile. This was my first DeLillo and while I don't feel like I always "got" it, the feeling of the book is remarkable.

Spare and haunting from master novelist DeLillo.
