A Blunt Instrument - Inspector Hannasyde, Bk 4
Author: Georgette Heyer
Ernest Fletcher was a man for all women. That curly, blond hair, that irresistible dimple, they couldn't keep their hands off him. Men couldn't either-though they preferred fists. But whose hands picked up an instrument unknown and bashed in Ernest's pretty skull one pleasant English night?

Everyone liked Ernest Fletcher but someone killed him anyway. Insp. Hemingway and Hannasyde of Scotland Yard felt it was an unlikely crime for a London suburb. Who tiptoed into the study to do the deed? A good old-fashioned Heyer mystery.

In addition to being the queen of the regency romance, Georgette Heyer wrote excellent mysteries. All the clues are there for you as well as for the inspector and his sergeant. There are also some eccentric young people and some romance as well. Very much in the vein of Agatha Christie.

An old-fashioned murder mystery set in the days when life was simpler. I hardly ever figure out 'whodunit', and thus probably enjoy these types of books more than more discerning readers. But even I figured this one out fairly quickly. Maybe I've finally read enough to see the clues. Still, I recommend this as a lite-snack for the brain.

Figured out who the killer was about 3/4 of the way through the book. But I had to force myself to believe it. Hint : It wasn't the butler. :-)
