An excellent spy novel, set (mostly) in WWII London during the Blitz. Lovingly detailed setting with a running commentary contrasting British vs American customs and mores, engaging characters, altogether a great read. Be warned, however - this is the same book as "Rip Tide".

I love this character and the writing. The character reminds me of Martin Cruz Smith's cop Arkady in his gentle rebelliousness and dedication to solving crimes regardless of politics. As a lifelong fan of Adam Hall's Quiller series, I have been mourning the death of the author and the loss of Quiller. Sergeant Troy has become my new love. Clever and convoluted, whimsical and gritty.
