Boone is a trainee who has been fighting with the Black Dagger Brotherhood. He has recently been assigned to help Butch O'Neal, a former Homicide Detective, with investigating a string of murders. Two vampire females have been murdered in a Live Action Role Play Club. Their bodies were each hung by a hook. When Butch and Boone interview possible witnesses, they meet Helaine. Her sister was one of the victims. Helaine is determined to track down the killer. She doesn't trust Boone at first; but comes to believe that he may be able to help her find the monster who killed her sister.
I loved both Boone and Helaine. Boone's sire dies early in the story. His father never loved him and found him to be a disappointment. He cut Boone out of his will. Without help from the Brotherhood and his fellow trainees, Boone would be alone in the world. Helaine is another person who is alone in the world. She wants to bring her sister's killer to justice.
Both the romance and the mystery were well done. I liked that Butch got to use his abilities as a detective to help with this little mystery. This is the last book in the Black Dagger Legacy spinoff series. In my opinion, these books should be read with the original BDB series as they were published. There is so much cross-over and character development in both series, it feels like you miss something if you don't read them in order. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
