Native politics abound in this volume, and we see more of Kate Shugak's character as her relationship with Jack and his son Johnny becomes more fleshed out with details of Jack's divorce from his vindictive ex-wife. Stabenow shows a deep respect for the differing views of Native American Alaskans and gives us a fascinating look into Alaskan politics as Kate's grandmother coerces her into attending the Alaskan Federation of Natives convention to investigate the death of one of its board members.

I am an avid reader of Dana Stabenow's work. Her protagonist, Kate Shugak, is well defined and very readable.

This one takes you into a lot of Alska history.The mystery is about someone killing off the native council members.

Love this series. This one is set at the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention, in Anchorage, which makes it unusual for her.
