While I was interested up through about chapter 9, after that I found it fairly boring. There was a lot of time spent in flashbacks of the history of various characters and not a whole lot happening in the present. It felt a bit like the first of a series with all the setup of the world and the characters, but this was first published in 1999 and there's no sequel at this time.
Added: I wrote the above 1/2/2009, and in 2009 the sequel was published, with another to come in 2010. So maybe it'd be worth reading after all, if the later books are any better. I just didn't find this interesting enough to bother getting the next book. I also gave up on the Noble Dead series after book 6, in case that helps you decide if we might like the same things.

Sort of a Paranormal/Urban Fantasy/Horror novel. Definately not a romance. Eliesha is a vampire, who's Sire created her for only one purpose. She's been doing as expected for decades, while hiding among Humans. Then, her only vampire friend brings attention to her, and she is chased by a couple of humans who suspect what she is. Eliesha has to hide, while still fulfilling her Sire's expectations. She learns more about her kind, which could mean her death. A fair amount of violence, and killing. Overall, interesting plot. Eliesha learns the mysteries of her kind, while on the run. The book is pretty good.

I did not think it was up to her standards, but I am keeping it or I will just keep getting again. Maybe no. 2 in the series will pick up the pace. I didn't care for #7 in Noble dead either so maybe this was just a bad spot for her.

I enjoyed this book (much different from the collaborative Noble Dead series). Told from the point of view of a long-lived vamp being hunted along with others of her kind. Recommended for anyone who wants to immerse her/him self in a fantasy world in the modern age.
This book is the first of three in the Vampire Memories series. Hendee's story is unique. I enjoyed this book. If you are a diehard vamp fan who reads all things vampire, then this is a decent read.
Written in the voice of a newly born vampire, slightly different than normal vampire books, Iliesha has to learn on her own what she has become in order to take care of her makers elderly father turned vampire after altshimers sets in. Her maker just sends her and his father to America in the 1800's with no knowledge of how to survive other than to avoid sunlight. I found it interesting to read.
Hard to find in print.

This is a new author for me and I simply adored this book and the way the author wrote it with so much individual character history. I loved how each character had a unique back story with twists and turns that inevitably brought them together.
The book ended with a jaw dropping finally that left me reeling because I never saw it coming. I also loved the cliff hanger that leaves you wanting more and looking for the next book.
I fell in love with the characters and devour each page. I would recommend this book for anyone, be it, adults or teens about 16 years plus.
I have no favorite character because I loved them all. Please take my advice and read this book. The beginning might come across as slow but stick with it because it's a fantastic story
