This is a journalist's account of a brutal murder and 2 cruel assaults made by a crazed man from Ohio on his way to Florida. The author does a nice job of describing the victims, their injuries, and the suffering of their families in the aftermath of the crime, but I found there to be a lot of repetition in the presentation of the story. The author jumps from first person to third person in the narrative, and that is poor writing. The book is about an interesting crime but the writing of it was not cohesive, and I would only rate it a 2.5 out of 5 pts.

In an Alabama resort town of Mentone Hayward Bissel was hurtling down the highway in a Lincoln town car. A 400 hundred pound madman on a murder rampage. He rammed the pickup truck of Don and Rhea Pirchand then lured Don on to the road, running him down with his car.
He next targeted the home of James and and Sue Pumphrey. After stabbing James in the stomach, Bissell was thwarted by two family dogs, who gave their lives to protect their owners.Their sacrifice bought the Pumphrey's enough time to get a gun to scare off Bissell who didn't know the weapon was inoperable.
When Bisssel was finally stoppped, police discovered he wasn't alone. Occupying the passenger seat beside him the mutilated, partially dismembered body of his pregnant girlfriend.
