The main problem with this book is the static nature of the characters. Events happen but nothing transforms the people; they end up more or less as they begin the story. I didn't find the main character, Marla, either very likable or compelling. But, if you care more about the events than the characters, and like magic (sorcerers, ancient Aztec gods, seers,) and San Francisco (where the story takes place) you will be able to read to the end. (I questioned finishing this book, but just did it anyway.)
A fun read. Non-stop action with a kick-ass heroine with a refreshing practical approach to her magic.
I LOVED this! Very funny in a totally dry, straight-faced way. Marla reminds me of both Granny Weatherwax and Susan in the Discworld novels, in her extreme practicality.

This was a good read. The heroine, Marla, is a no-nonsense, action oriented sorcerer.
A new series. Some of the book was good but then there was so much going on I started to get lost. For me a new series should give more info about the characters & I wasn't getting that from this book. Marla the main character at times was unlikeable & annoying, other times I could see why she was so tough. Would I read the next in the series, I'm not sure.
