This second mystery of Pliny the Younger is even better than the first. It's apparent why Library Journal named this novel "A Best Mystery" of 2008.

The story flows right along and involves numerous historical figures. It doesn't take Pliny long to realize he is being used by the Emperor Domitian to uncover a threat to the emperor's reign. Pliny is not happy about this at all.

Meanwhile, Bell uses the story to also teach us how life was in ancient Rome.
