The story is suspensful and the main characters well developed. I felt like I could really connect to them and what was going on in the book. It's a definite must read for thriller fans.

The first in the Grant County series. After reading this and her follow up books, Karin Slaughter is now my all-time favorite author! Her stories are incredible! I read one her her books in 2 days! That's amazing for me since it usually takes me about a week or more to read a novel! I recommend her books to everyone but I also recommend that you read them in order starting with this one.

A fellow PBSer recommended the "Georgia" series by Slaughter. These are the first books she wrote and Blindsighted is the first of them. Hard to believe this is a first novel--the plot is good, reader involvement is excellent, and there were very few times when the action seemed to drag. All in all, this is a book to read and enjoy.

Definitely creepy - but a first rate thriller. Set in a small Georgia college town, it introduces Sara Linton (pediatrician and coroner) - her ex-husband (chief of police) - and a serial killer who takes them for a harrowing ride. Truly a "page turner"...kept me up until I finished it!

This was my first Karin Slaughter book, and apparently the first Grant County book is a great place to start. Slaughter does not shy away from violence or grisly descriptions, but unlike many of her male counterparts her female characters are well-developed and realistic.

The only part of this book that was a little weak was the ending; I thought the revelation of who-dunnit came a bit too early. Other than that small complaint this is a near perfect thriller.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Grant County series, because there are clearly some storylines involving this book's main characters that could be continued.

I thought Blindsighted was just OK. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and I guessed early on who the killer was. It definitely had its suspenseful moments, but sometimes I found of the description of the violence a little too graphic.

This book has several main characters. Jeffrey Tolliver, chief of police of Heartsdale, Georgia, investigages the murder taking place in his small town. His ex-wife, Sara Linton, is a pediatrician and the coroner. They are both likable and the book slowly gives you the history of their relationship.
Women in Heartsdale are showing up, if not dead, then nearly dead. The storyline is logical and easy to follow. I did find myself picking it up to continue (in other words, it wasn't a book I put down and forgot about). I enjoyed it even though this wasn't the most suspenseful book I've read. Gave it three and 1/2 stars.

This isnt my first foray into the twisted world that Karin Slaughter creates, and it wont be my last but she does have a hard time keeping me interested in reading about the goings-on in Heartsdale, Georgia. The book begins with a shocking scene: a blind teacher has been raped and apparently (nearly) gutted but is alive when local pediatrician/coroner Dr. Sara Linton finds her. Sara, unable to save her, now faces the task of explaining to her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, what happened. She also now has to explain what happened to the teachers sister, detective Lena Adams.

The three characters, Sara, Jeffrey, and Lena, create an explosive triangle of distrust, hero worship, and off-beat friendship. However, they also come across at times as very unlikable people, people who are so damaged they cant function in normal society. They behave inconsistently and, in Lenas case, stupidly at times and its hard to believe that people with advanced medical degrees or years of job experience would do some of the things that these characters do.
The plot is nicely paced, but there is a lot of dialogue and backstory to wade through.

Interestingly, though, I believed that Lena was going to be the central character in this book since her sister, Sibyl, was the teacher murdered at the outset. But the central character is Sara, whose past rape is described clinically via a court transcript in a later chapter. I guessed the killer before the end, since there werent that many suspects to begin with (hey, it is a small town). One of the more problematic aspects of this book is how the author describes the killers raping of his victims. She practically eroticizes it, and this is uncomfortable to read. I had the same complaint about Patricia Cornwells book Predator. She doesnt simply let the readers know about the killers fetishes; she wallows in it.

Slaughter has been compared to Cornwell by other reviewers, but Cornwells books are more sharply detailed and her characters more likable. Dr. Sara Linton is no Dr. Kay Scarpetta. And her niece, Lucy Farinelli, would pistol whip the damaged Lena Adams before shooting her.

The subject matter has an edge to it. I had to suppress my awareness of the cruelty involved in the action in order to enjoy the interaction of the characters. Dr. Sara Linton's lunch time meeting with her sister doesn't go as expected. She finds a young professor, Sybil Adams, raped and murdered in the diner's restroom. Sara's ex-husband, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver, is in charger of the investigation. When a second victim is found a couple days later, he knows Grant County Georgia is harboring a serial killer.

This is an incredible debut novel. I couldn't put it down. The characters are well-developed. You learn more about their histories as the story goes on. If you are a reader bothered by violence or graphic forensic descriptions, you may want to skip this series. My rating: 5 Stars.

This is the second Karin Slaughter novel I've read - and the first one she wrote. I'm a fan - her writing isn't as in depth as Patricia Cromwell, but it has a fast paced rhythmn to it that keeps me reading. I haven't decided yet if it is awesome that I figure out the bad guy by the middle of the book and keep reading to make sure I'm right or if I'd rather be taken off balance at the end because the clues completely misled me and I have to reread parts searching for where I got off track. At any rate I enjoy her books and find them to be a great "fast food" read with some nutritional value. This one was no exception to that.

This is the first in a new series of books with an interesting set of characters set in Georgia. This is the last book that I have read in the series--having read all the others first. Because I had read the later books first, I knew a lot of what would happen in this book, but it was still good and suspenseful. This was not my favorite in the series, however it was still above average. I love Slaughter's character development, but I sometimes skim parts because I find her descriptions to be a bit long winded at times. She is definitely my new writer of choice for mysteries/thrillers with one interesting imagination! I can't put her books down when I get one in my hand. This one was no exception.

Synopsis--The sleepy town of Heartsdale is jolted into panic when Sara Linton, pediatrician and medical examiner, finds Sibyl Adams, a young college professor, horribly murdered in the local diner. Police chief Jeffrey Tolliver then finds a second victim crucified and recognises the work of a serial killer.

I thought this was a very good Audio book, and found it easy to listen to and hard to put down. Karin Slaughter is a very good author and Judith Ivey was a very good storyteller. Judith Ivey kept me intriqued with her voice that changed with each character. I would have rather had a unabridged book instead. I felt I was missing most of the story, however the story was still good.

Very good audio book - this was great for a recent stay in the hospital with headphones! A young blind lady is murdered and no one can figure out why until the police chief goes back to the scene of the crime 12 years ago when his ex-wife was raped. One of his deputies is next on the list of the madman but when the madman dies they don't know if she is dead already or where she is. Recommended.

First book in a series about Dr Sara Linton serves a small Georgia town as its pediatrician and coronor and Police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, Sara's ex-husband.

Sara and Jeff are on again off again. It is impossible to avoid each other because of their jobs. A trail of terror grows increasingly macabre as yet another woman is found crucified. Lena, the sole female detective who is the sister of the first victim wants to serve her own justice but becomes a victim. But Sara holds the key to finding the killer. A secret from her past could unmask the killer.

This is a debut novel with a plot that grabs your interest and well defined characters. A good suspense thriller. Four stars.

It's Monday morning in the sleepy tow of Heartsdale, Georgia, and everything is as normal. That is until Sara Linton - local paediatrician and medical examiner and ex-wife of Chief of Police Jeffery Tolliver - goes to the bathroom of the local diner and finds Sibyl Adams, sister of detective Lena Adams, barely clinging to life. She has been viciously raped, ad a cross has been cut deep in her abdomen. Despite Sara's desperate efforts to bring her back to the land of the living, Sibyl dies, thus becoming the first victim of a serial killer ready to commit ore horrifying crimes than anyone in this genteel little town could ever have dreamed of.
Then, a young student goes missing, and, shortly after, another victim is found, crucified and lying on the bonnet of Sara Linton's car...

This, an excellent portrait of crime in small-town America, is an absolutely first-class debut novel. Taut, suspenseful and shocking throughout, this is a runaway success that puts Karin Slaughter (perfect name!) right on the front line of female thriller writers, alongside Mo Hayder, Cornwell, Reichs, McDermid and the like. "Blindsighted" is bloody well-written, too, and Slaughter has struck an exquisitely perfect balance between plot and character.

The plot is excellent. It's brutal at times, although never gratuitously, shocking, with one or two events completely taking me by stunned surprise, yet also moving and compassionate. The leading trio are a compelling, fully realised bunch, and their relationships with one another (especially Sara and Jeffery) are fascinating.

Slaughter clearly has some fantastic talent and promise within her. "Blindsighted" is reminiscent of Cornwell's own spectacular debut, "Postmortem", and, while not yet quite as good as her, she hopefully has a long, similarly successful and influential career ahead of her.

Like Boston Teran's "God is a Bullet", "Blindsighted" is a debut to die-for.

#1 in series
In Blindsighted (book one of an anticipated three featuring Grant County, Georgia, pediatrician and coroner Dr. Sara Linton), first-time novelist Karin Slaughter comes out swinging in true medical examiner fashion. That is to say, covered with blood from the get-go.

Without warning, the body jerked violently, pitching forward and slamming Sara onto the floor. Blood spread out around both of them, and Sara instinctively clawed to get out from under the convulsing woman. With her feet and hands she groped for some kind of purchase on the slick bathroom floor. Finally, Sara managed to slide out from underneath her. She turned Sibyl over, cradling her head, trying to help her through the convulsions. Suddenly, the jerking stopped.
Sibyl is, or was, Sibyl Adams, a college professor who had the misfortune of being drugged, savagely raped, slashed, and left for dead in the toilet of the local diner, to be coincidentally discovered by Sara Linton. Coincidences don't stop there, and neither do the rapes and murders. The next is, unimaginably, still more gruesome than the first and it, too, is discovered by Dr. Linton. Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver is Sara's ex-husband, and mercurial detective Lena Adams, another major player in the ensuing drama, was Sibyl's twin sister.

And the monster behind these increasingly more depraved acts? Suspects abound, from the diner's jack-of-all-trades, Will Harris, to Victim No. 2's boyfriend, to Jack Allen Wright who, a dozen years prior, raped Dr. Linton (that rape had been a secret until now). There are other possibilities, naturally, and it soon becomes apparent that Sara's an intended target.

A graduate of the Patricia Cornwell school of mayhem and gore, Slaughter has faithfully stitched together a fast, engaging, and diverting read complete with a strong-yet-vulnerable heroine. Characters are nicely if somewhat obviously drawn, the plot is inventive, and the narrative's pacing quickens the pulse straight to the cliff-hanging denouement. And really, what more can you ask of an ME thriller?
