Brock tells his story. He was a right-wing hit man. He grew up and came into the light. This is his attempt to right some of the wrongs he committed as a right-wing-nut.
I have bought more than 40 copies of this book at library sales, yard sales, etc. and given them to students, friends and family. Everyone has appreciated Brock's message, though some were more frightened than others. Many of the people Brock outed are still in power, even at the twilight of the disaster that was the bush administration.

Of course, the big question about David Brock and his mea culpa in Blinded by the Right is, if he says he was lying before, how do we know he's not lying now? I think the way to tell is to look at the consequences to him of publishing this book. Pre-publication, he was financially more than comfortable as, in his words, an "attack dog" of the radical right. Furthermore, even if he was uneasy in his position as their token gay man, and increasingly not happy with his attack dog role, at least he had a clearly defined role in that world. Post-publication, the economic hit he took was significant; in fact, he had no job for some time. He had to establish trust and credibility with those he had been sliming and slandering for years. And his role was far from clearly defined. Under the circumstances, I think it is clear that we can trust him now.
David Brock is an unscrupulous man. I guess he went from being a right-wing hitman to a left-wing hitman. He's founded Correct the Record and ShareBlue, groups that pay people to shill and push left-wing views online and feign support for Democratic candidates. He's one of the most unethical men in America, and it's thanks to people like him that the political scene on social media is so muddied you can't tell who's real and who's just a bot or a shill anymore.
