This is the book that got me hooked on John Saul. Very imaginative and extremely entertaining. There are no dull parts in John Saul's novels.

another scary Saul book. Might have read better as a series. But Saul fans will love it.

As serial novels go, I guess this was ok. But to me it was just a bunch of short stories (which I hate) that were connected because all the people lived in the same own. There isn't much of a story you can tell in 65 pages so the plot was thin, the characters not developed and the suspense forced. All in all, not his best work.

For horror readers who love John Saul, will enjoy this book! It is 6 novellas in one which center around the town Blackstone. When things start happening to the residence everyone starts wondering what is going on and who exactly is behind it. Although it is a great book in all, some of the stories are a little slow but in the end it prevails.

I consider it the best book I've read so far by John Saul. Very creepy. Had times late at night when it made my skin crawl. Loved it!

You have to like John Saul's writing to like this book. I found it very good. I really liked that all the series were in one book - 6 stories leading up to the end story that gave you the answer.
It is "spooky". It takes place in a small town that is trying to convert an old asylum into a shopping mall. Someone, or something, does not want it changed.

Riding on the heels of King's The Green Mile, Saul put out a serialize novel too. Unlike King's Green Mile, the Blackstone Chronicles is a straight out horror story. It is a good fun read about a town, an old asylum, a deep dark secret and some deadly cursed items. Fans of the old Friday the 13th TV show will like this series.

Pretty good series but felt he could have gone into more detail in each of the seperate stories. I felt they were rather quick. It was still a decent read.

This was a great book by John Saul. I loved how all of the stories were connected. It was creepy and fascinating at the same time.

I thought this book was ok. I'm not a raging John Saul fan. he sems to mimic Stephen King a bit, and if i had the choice I'd read King instead. Still, some of the stories are better than others here. They are woven together well. I figured out the ending well efore i got there though, so there was no ahha moment for me. Overall, not a bad book. If I'm going to read something like this, I'd choose the master (early King) over the devoted student (John Saul) in the future. Notreally bad but just predictable. If you've got time to kill, you could pick worse, or better...the choice is yours.

a very suspenseful terrifying novel, of great intensity. A very fast easy to follow read. A family is sent an antique doll. Does it hold supernatural powers? Did it come from the old Blackstone Asylum? 5 star series.

Let me just tell you- OMG- I read these stories when they came out as separate titles (not all in one volume like this) and I was literally DYING to read the next one!! They were so good and I was like "oh crap, what next???" but they were SO GOOD!!! READ THIS BOOK!!! I've read nearly all of John Saul's books and this was one of my faves (my all time favorite Saul book is The Unloved!)
