Originally for an African-American studies class, this non-fiction book hits home for the realities of black women in this country. A rich subculture of strong women, it is richly laced with quotes, footnotes, tables, and challenges of being a black woman. I never forgot this class, or what I learned in it that helped clarify the world with words that I could not have come up with.
