This is the most exciting book I have read in years and years. The first one in the series was good but this one was really fun and exciting. I can't wait to see how the third one goes. If you like to see nasty people get their comeupance read this book. Southern women cat fights are the best!!!

Good book. I was a little disappointed that Stella and Logan weren't in this one as much as the first because I became so fond of them. However, the point of view in the 1st book was Stella's and this one was of Roz's so it only made sense that way. Roz is one brave lady; there is no way in the world I would stay in a house that is haunted by a lunatic ghost. The mystery of the ghost's identity is pretty much solved so it will be interesting to see how much the ghost story is incorporated in book 3, which I assume will be from the point of view of Hayley (most likely finally realizing she is in love with Harper).

I have to admit that I generally classify Norah Roberts books as "junk food" reading for myself, but they never fail to satisfy in that regard. This is just one carbon copy book from the many, many she's written that fits neatly into an interesting story about women and romance, with some supernatural elements thrown in to complete the classic Norah Roberts formula. I did enjoy this one-it hit the spot for me when I needed a light read. Also, be sure to check out Blue Dahlia and Red Lily, the other two in the series. Enjoy :) This is a great beach/lake/airplane/travel read-engaging and sweet, with nice, take-your-breath-away romantic moments.

Second in the 'In the Garden' Trilogy. As good as 'Blue Dahlia'. This one is mainly about Roz, owner of the In the garden nursery and the house in which most of the action takes place. Another wonderful, strong woman by Nora Roberts.

Loved this book and the whole series. Romance, gardening, plus a ghost to liven up things!
The series (BLUE DAHLIA, BLACK ROSE, and RED LILY) is about three women of different ages who are drawn together by circumstance to work at a family-owned plant nursery. I love so many of Nora Roberts' books but this whole series was especially good because of the characters, and if you love gardening and plants, you'll especially enjoy this series, because it tells a lot about propagation of plants, grafting plants, etc. through the characters teaching newcomers the business.
BLACK ROSE is the second book, and is about the life of the woman who inherited a large estate, and was widowed, and to raise her family, has turned it into a first class plant nursery. Her children are grown, and she hires two single mothers to help her run the business.
She's so smart and independant, and yet has to cope with the embarrassment of having previously fallen in love with and married a man who conned her. It's wonderful to read the empathetic story as her new friendships develop and the women become a strong support group for each other through romance and financial challenges. Enjoy!

This is the 2nd book in the Garden series. The first was Blue Dahlia. This is the story of Roz. Of course you knew at the end of the first book who she'd end up with, but it's so fun going along for the ride, and finding out how it all happens! I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one.

Book Two of the In the Garden Trilogy. EXCELLENT - READ THE SERIES!

"Nora Roberts at her best"
In Memphis, forty-five year old Rosalind "Roz" Harper for the most part feels good about life mostly because of the young that has brought her family home Harper House back to life. Her "son" David takes good care of the estate. Her In the Garden's nursery manager Stella Rothchild does likewise although the mother of two young sons will probably leave once she weds her beloved Logan. Finally her beloved employee Hayley Philips has a delightful newborn who makes Roz feel like an indulgent grandmother.

The two flaws in Roz optimistic outlook are the return of her sponge of an ex husband Bryce Clerk doing what he does best trying to live off someone else with Roz his target and the mystery of the Harper Bride ghost. The former is a question of ignoring him though Bryce keeps pushing; the latter is to much a presence to pretend she is not there so Roz hires genealogist Dr. Mitch Carnegie to look into her past. Mitch quickly becomes a ghost believer even as he falls in love with his reluctant client, who ponders a second chance after the failure of her first attempt at marriage.

This paranormal family drama is a Nora that can stand alone but reading the previous novel, BLUE DAHLIA, enhances the experience as the audience will have a taste how far the Harper "extended" family including ghosts has come. The ensemble cast seems genuine and clues to the mystery of the ghost augment the novel. Nora Roberts is at her best with the first two novels of the Garden trilogy leaving readers to anticipate quite a finish to the miniseries.

The second book of the In Garden Trilogy by Nora Roberts shows us the life of Roz Harper a widow, mother, and owner of the Garden shop that she built on her own after widowing at a young age.

The Harper Mansion was passed down to Roz along with the Harper Bride a ghost who has haunted the Mansion since anyone could remember. The Harper Bride who we learned was named Amelia in the last book Blue Dahlia has gone from a nurturing ghost who sings lullabies to the children in the house to a man hater and will do anything in her power to make sure that Roz knows that men will cheat and lie and take over everything that she has built for herself.

After widowing at a young age, and a brief marrage and divorce from Bryce who shows up and is seeking revenge through this story she finds herself wondering if she is willing to open up to another man like that again.

Mitch is trying to find out the history of Harper Mansion and the Harper bride. He finds that the more time his spends around Roz the more wrath the Harper ghost shows towards him. "

This trilogy celebrates Nora's love of gardening and her can-do women who have both grit and style. The gorgeous, 47-year-old, Southern heroine owns her own nursery that she built herself. Emotionally, she's vulnerable because she married a creep after the death of her love-of-her-life first husband. She employs a handsome older geneology expert to track down the history of the ghost who has lived in her fabulous old house for decades and is now starting to endanger people. Meanwhile, her ex returns to take advantage of her again and she manages to thwart her ex and publicly expose him for the lying, thieving creep he is! Complete justice! Yay! A very satisfying read!

This is the 2nd book in Nora Robert's In The Garden Trilogy. Black Rose focuses on Rosalind Harper, or Roz as she is known. Roz is the owner, and mother hen, of In The Garden nursery. She's practical, sensible, a widow with 3 grown sons. Her employees Stella and Hayley and their families have become surrogate children to Roz, but she feels lonely. The group continues its research of their mysterious ghost, the Harper Bride, and brings in a genealogist, Dr. Mitchell Carnegie, to help trace Roz's ancestors. As the investigation deepens, so does the attraction between Roz and the doctor.

Rosalind Harper is the owner of a historic Tennessee mansion and the force behind the thriving garden business on its grounds. Widowed young and then scarred by an unwise second marriage, Roz has sworn off dating, instead inviting a collection of family, friends and their children to share her home. Unfortunately, the house is also inhabited by a mysterious ghost, known as the Harper Bride. Roz hires genealogist Dr. Mitchell Carnagie to track the Bride's identity, but the unpredictable and passionate relationship that develops between the two sets off still more malignant displays from the ghost. Roberts postpones the ghost story's resolution for the trilogy's end, but brings Roz and Mitch to a satisfying commitment complete with realistic power struggles and peace treaties among their various children. Roz's inherited privilege is off-putting at times, and her calm in the face of ghostly attacks seems far-fetched. Yet she remains a warmly appealing heroine, resolutely finding her path through a midlife romance that is more complex and hard-fought than 20-something love.

Nora Roberts really seems to like her trilogies. I don't know if that's a smart marketing ploy, or just the way she likes to put a story together. This is the middle in the Garden trilogy. It has all of the typical Roberts elements -- some romance, friendships, intrigue, and a ghost. I always enjoy the amount of research she seems to do for her background, and in this one I learned a bit about gardening and the greenhouse business that I didn't know before! It's an enjoyable series -- not as good as the Circle or Key series, but definitely up there.

Black Rose is the second book in Ms. Roberts' In the Garden Trilogy. While Stella and Logan still feature in this book, as do Hayley and Harper, this book is focused on Roz.

Roz is the mistress of Harper House. She is also one who seems to have the ghostly attention of Amelia, which as we'll learn in this book isn't without reason.

Roz recently came out of a bad relationship, and really isn't looking for anything with anyone... until Dr. Mitchell Carnegie comes along. They start out as just friends, but when that sizzle starts, neither of them can resist it.

But with Amelia in the background, and Roz's past to contend with, will Roz and Mitch find their happy ending?

Black Rose is my second favorite book of the trilogy. My favorite is the final book, Red Lily, but this one is a very close second. Roz is a very strong character, and even though she's in her late forties, she's still totally young at heart.

It's interesting to read a story whose main character is much older than I am. But it didn't turn me away from it, or make the story any less. If anything it made it more.

If you enjoy Ms. Roberts, this is definitely a book and series you won't want to miss!

Roz Harper has hired genealogist Mitchell Carnegie to research Amelia, the ghost haunting Harper House. Amelia is getting progressively more violent which is troublesome because there are now children in the house. Mitch is instantly attracted to Roz and Roz is oblivious. The courtship is sweet and very romantic. Of course, ex-husband Bryce Clerk causes trouble left and right but surprisingly Roz handles him beautifully.

This one focuses alot on the gardening aspect of the series In The Garden since Roz is the owner. I admit to skipping alot of the "plant/gardening" discussions. I really liked Mitch as he's an absent-minded professor type guy which I've always found attractive and endearing. Roz is a really strong female who doesn't need a man but discovers that she wants one...this one. Another totally enjoyable romance by Nora Roberts.

I wasn't sure I was going to love this book as Roberts so rarely writes about women over the age of 35. I found myself wondering how the main character was going to end up pregnant (as all of her trilogies tend to end in pregnancies). That said, I LOVED the second book of the "In the Garden" trilogy because of the difference in formula. If you're like me and read Nora Roberts' for the lovely, easy departure from reality, you will adore this series. Full of intrigue, suspense, a little supernatural . . . pretty fun. And, because of the subject matter, I almost wanted to start gardening!

Part 2 of In the Garden. Another fun series from Nora.
reviewed Black Rose (In the Garden, Bk 2) on
Book two of Roberts's In the Garden trilogy (following Blue Dahlia) showcases the author's many strengths, from her creation of appealing characters to her melding of the eerily paranormal with the delightfully down-to-earth.

Book Two of the Garden Trilogy. From inside review:

A Harper has always lived at Harper House, the centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis. And for as long as anyone alive remembers, the ghostly Harper Bride has walked the halls, singing lullabies at night...

At forty-seven, Rosalind Harper is a woman whose experiences have made her strong enough to bend without breaking--and weather any storm. A widow with three grown sons, she survived a disastrous second marriage and built her In the Garden nursery from the ground up. Through the years, In the Garden has become more than just a thriving business--it is a symbol of hope and independence to Roz, and the two women she shared it with. Newlywed Stella and new mother Hayley are the sisters of her heart, and together, the three of them are the future of In the Garden.

But now the future is under attack, and Roz knows they can't fight this battle alone. Hired to investigate Roz's Harper ancestors, Dr. Mitchell Carnegie finds himself just as intrigued with Roz herself. And as they begin to unravel the puzzle of the Harper Bride's identity, Roz is shocked to find herself falling for the fascinating genealogist. Now it is a desperate race to discover the truth before the unpredictable apparition lashes out at the one woman who can help her rest in peace...

Rosalind Harper has hired genealogist Mitchell Carnegie to help discover the identity of the Harper Bride, a ghost that haunts Harper House. Mitch talks to Roz's relatives and searches old books and diaries, looking for the identity of the ghost known as Amelia. Who was she and why does she haunt this house? Roz and Mitch grow closer as they work together to discover Amelia's past. This does not make the ghost happy at all. Her rage threatens Roz and the people she loves.

This is the second book in the In the Garden Trilogy. I liked both Roz and Mitch, but their romance was kind of boring. I couldn't feel any chemistry between them. I was looking forward to the ghost story in this book, but the pace was slow. I guess it is hard dragging it out over three books. The most interesting part of the story for me was Roz's ex-husband returning to Memphis and making her life miserable. Roz knows he is behind most of her troubles; but doesn't have any evidence to take to the police. I thought these portions of the story were the highlights of the book. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Very well written- The second book in the garden trilogy. Love the mix of magic into the story line. Was surprised at the character chosen to be next in this series and I expected her book to be the last. Interesting and suspenseful with the usual Nora roberts flare for details and people and ROMANCE.

Tried to read it, got so bored that I put it down 1/4 of the way through it and never picked it up again. But then, it's a contemporary, and there are VERY few contemporaries good enough to keep my interest. And this one was downright boring.

Not the best in the trilogy. I think I had a harder time connecting to Roz because she is a bit older than most heroines but it was still enjoyable.
