When Marko Vukic, Nero Wolfe's best friend is killed, life as Wolfe and Archie Goodwin know it changes dramatically. Shot in front of his restaurant, neither Wolfe nor the police can find clues as to why and who killed the man. It is Wolfe's adopted daughter who gives him the first idea as to why he was killed. However, she doesn't know who only that it is connected with his involvement with an organization from his birth country.

Unlikely as it may seem, Nero Wolfe leaves his comfortable office and travels across the ocean with Archie to Montenegro. There the two hike around the mountains searching for clues to who killed Wolfe's friend. I found this incredibly unlikely due to Wolfe's lifestyle but enjoyed the novel just the same. Perhaps that is what made the book memorable for me. It's just too ridiculous to be believed. Nevertheless I love the novels of this era and enjoy reading them so much.

Neo Wolfe is a memborable character of this era.
