Rebus takes on a big crime boss and puts his life in danger. He dwells on an old case in which a murder took place and was never solved. He is on the outs with his girlfriend and is working with 2 young cops who may be in danger of becoming involved. You get a feel for Edinburgh; both the rich area and the ordinary. Rebus is always on the edge of suspension for his unorthodox style.
