I was wowed by this book, and until a few days ago I had never heard of Jenn Benett. The 1920's are not my usual era, I read mostly British historicals set in the 1800's. Also, it's a paranormal which I rarely like. But someone recommended it at the SBTB blog, so I gave it a try, and I'm so glad I did! I loved the big hunky hero, and the smart and nervy heroine. The paranormal stuff was mostly in the form of ghostly spirits and Chinese black magic. The author does a great job of invoking the flavor of San Francisco during the Roaring Twenties, and I especially loved the descriptions of the snappy jazz age fashions that the characters were wearing. Seriously, it made me want to go out and buy a fox fur coat!
But besides all that, the H & h were a smokin' hot couple. Jenn Bennett can get more mileage out of a kiss in the back of a taxi than some authors do with a whole night in the bedroom. I really felt the sexual tension going on, and couldn't wait till they finally got together. The conflicts between H&h were well done and made sense, the relationship developed at a believable pace, and their banter was sharp and sweet at the same time.
So, to sum up, great dialog, great characters, a fun read that I had trouble putting down.

So I discovered Bennett's Arcadia Bell series late last year. I read the first 3 books and the novella all in 3 days. I gave them all 5 stars. Can you imagine the fangirling I was doing when I saw this was coming out? The roaring twenties! Ghost! *Rushes to pre-order it* I could barely keep my SQUEEE below glass shattering. I started reading it the second it downloaded to my kindle. And returned it for a refund an hour later. After the love a felt for the author's fist series, I never thought I'd want to scream BURN IT WITH FIRE with this series. Now I'm a little leery about trying any new series by this author :(
Someone has put a curse on notorious bootlegger Winter Magnusson. First he became a magnet for ghosts wandering around San Francisco. Now someone has poisoned him. He is sent to Aida Parker for help. Aida is a spirit medium who has a stage show in Chinatown. She banishes the ghost who is following him and assists in the removal of the poison. When Winter again has a ghost attack him, he and Aida work to discover who put the curse on him.
This is the first book I've read by this author, but definitely not the last. This is the first book in a trilogy set in 1920's San Francisco. I loved the setting. It was so nice to read a historical romance set outside of the Regency era. The paranormal story is fun. No one knew who cursed Winter or why anyone would want to. Did it have to do with his line of work? Was it something to do with his late wife? Finally, the characters in this story are fun. I loved Winter and Aida. They were very romantic. I also liked the other characters in this book and look forward to their story. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

I have had this book on my TBR pile for awhile now. This is first book in The Roaring Twenties trilogy; and is a cute paranormal romance set in the 1920's. It was a bit too romancy for me at times but I still enjoyed it; it was a nice, light, fun read.
The plot is fairly simple and isn't a huge part of the story; many times the plot is overshadowed by the romance. However, there are some paranormal elements in here too such as Aida's ability to see ghosts and the Chinese curse put on Winter.
I did enjoy the two main characters and the chemistry they have, they end up in a sweet yet tumultuous romance. The story ties up at a good spot too.
Overall this was a cute paranormal romance read set in the 1920's in San Fran. I enjoyed the setting and the chemistry between the two main characters. The plot was fairly simple though and the romance definitely overshadowed everything else. I prefer my stories to be a bit more balanced and because of that I don't plan on reading any more books in this series. Those who enjoy romance heavy paranormal reads should check this book out.
