This is an interesting story. In 1888 Utah polygamy was beginning to fade away and it was illegal. However, their were families who had been polygamous 20- 30 years prior to this and had been advised to be polygamous by their church. What do you do when you already have several wives and many children? Legally, the first wife exists and her children are legal; but after that any other wives and children were common law families by 1888. If you even acknowledge that your families exist, it was illegal and the church in Utah had divided on the question of polygamy. This is one man's very interesting story of how he dealt with his polygamous family. Historically, this is is a great read.
