Forgotten classic mystery from 1945, one of the best I've ever read and I've read hundreds of them. Written by a female, it's strong on the female point of view, female friendships, lots of clothes and jewels and hats, but male readers will be impressed by the inventive plot twists and amazing prose not often found in American mysteries.
I don't know what led me to request this book, but I'm glad I did. It is a very interesting mystery with a decidedly different ending.
I've since put others of this author on my WL. But some of hers can't be added, as Fantastic Fiction has an interesting page on her. According to the page, this book just came out in August, 2023, but my copy is dated in 1980. And another of her books came out in 1952, but you can't find it in PBS, and Amazon basically has no data about it, except for the cost of copies. A shame, as she writes a good story.
