This is a post apocalyptic novel and not one of my favorite genres. The author never really explains what the creatures were. The story was not too scary but rather creepy. I don't think I would want to read it at night before sleeping as the story would definitely play tricks with your mind. The story jumps between past and present and the author does this very well. There is a definite connection to the characters as you do care about what is happening to them. This is the author's debut novel and I would say that it would be good to keep an eye on him as he is very talented in this type of horror genre.

well written, I liked the book better than the movie but i'm going to watch the movie again now that I have read the book. No solution to the mystery which adds a high degree of suspense

This is a great psychological post apocalyptic horror novel. The author is great visually and emotionally in his writing and his creepiness factor is high as well. It is written in the past and present, but is very easy to follow. My only complaint is the lack of explanation, but it is still a very entertaining read.

Yikes! This is a very dark tale, but terrifying in places. It begins with a decision to leave the place that has sheltered a mother and her children for four years. It moves back in time to the events that led to this post apocalyptic world as they transpired and how they wound up alone. There is a creepy, tense atmosphere throughout the book that kept me turning pages, but in the end, it was just too dark for my taste. However, horror fans will like this one because it IS scary!

A well crafted story! The back and forth timeline worked and not knowing what was out there was perfect. This reminded me of the Stephen King based movie "The Mist" which I also thought was outstanding.

Fast paced page-turner and I loved the way the chapters alternated between past and present. This is the authors first book and I can't wait to see what he writes next!! I actually can't stop thinking about this book, it scared the hell out of me!

My first Top Read selection for 2019, and what a doozy of a tale it is! How do writers come up with this stuff? Just plain good story-telling about a group of survivors in an apocalyptic world. Seriously creepy and plenty frightening. And there's always one bad apple in the bunch, but I didn't see this one coming nor the culminating events that will sear into your brain long after you turn the last page. It's a suspenseful thriller that had me going from the get-go and left me jumpy at night. Highly recommended at 4.5 stars.

This is the book made into a Netflix movie. It's full of suspense and keeps you wanting to read right through to the end!
