Instant connection and unknown identify during a blackout in Chicago? That sounded intriguing and interesting.
The Wells have been Darius's family ever since the death of his parents when he was a teenager. Their son and daughter (Gage and Gabriella) became his siblings and best friends. When Gage got married, they didn't like her (wrong side of the tracks and therefore a gold digger and all wrong for Gage). So when Gage said some things, of course they were all true. Then Gage dies and Isobel and her son became enemy #1. They wanted nothing to do with her or their grandson.
Isobel is back in town and needs help. As a single mom, working 2 jobs she is struggling to pay the bills and wants Gage's family to have a relationship with their grandson. Things happen and Darius steps in.
I thought Isobel was awesome. She learns from her mistakes and stands up for herself. She knows she is worthy of trust and love and will not take anything less. Darius takes longer to get there and I thought he should have groveled more. I thought this wrapped up a little too quickly, but the epilogue was nice at the end (and needed).

A city wide blackout at a charity function and a resulting panic attack, leads Isobel & Gage to spend the night in a darkened hallway, discovering what make each other tick without revealing their identities. Sunrise brings a huge shock when Isobel realizes she just spent the night in the arms of her dead husband's best friend. Can the passion they discovered survive the years of lies and hatred from her in-laws/his surrogate family?
Naima Simone hits it out of the ballpark with her latest contemporary romance. I couldn't put it down - read entirely in one evening.
