Bill Scheft (born February 15, 1957, Boston) is an American comedy writer and novelist. He has been a staff writer for David Letterman since 1991, during which time he has been nominated for 15 Emmys. He is best known for his weekly humor column, "The Show," which ran in Sports Illustrated from 2002-2005. A collection of his columns, The Best of "The Show", was published by Warner Books in 2005.
Scheft is the author of three novels: The Ringer (2002), Time Won't Let Me (2005) and Everything Hurts (April, 2009, Simon and Schuster). Time Won't Let Me was a finalist for the 2006 Thurber Prize for American Humor. The Ringer has been optioned for film based on Scheft's adapted screenplay.
