This book is a good contrast to Ambrose's Band of Brothers. This book offers a different insight into the man Major Dick Winters. It is a very good read if you like WWII and the 101st Airborne.

Dick Winters is a bit too self effacing to provide a really thorough biography but this book does add a deeply personal dimension to the overall story. many of the episodes in 'Band of Brothers' are repeated but most include more detail. Various command relationships are explained, allowing a much better understanding of what Major Winters had to deal with besides merely the Germans.

If you have seen "Band of Brothers" on HBO, this book is a must read. It is an outstanding first-hand account of the battles and exploits of the guys surrounding Major Dick Winters. 90% of the book is war action, but it was interesting to see what happened to the guys after the war. I never knew that information until this book. Very good factual information and very interesting reading for WWII buffs.
