Dr. Moustafa explains the advantages of whole-to-parts instruction in kids learning letter-sound corresoondences. She advocates building upon what children know and differs from Margaret Adams. The key to her research is the chapter about onset and rime. Although laid out in a simple manner, this is a quite technical book.

This is an excellent overview featuring multiple methodologies. I can wholeheartedly recommend it as a welcome addition to any reading/English teacher's library.
