If you are a Jean M. Auel, Earth Children's series fan you will enjoy this. So far, it's the 2nd best prehistoric series I've read. Let's face it, there is just no living up to the expectations of Clan of the Cave Bear... but this one comes close.

A breathtaking saga of adventure at the dawn of history.
This is the first volume of a new series...The First Americans. When humans first walked the world, when nature ruled the earth and sky, a proud tribe is threatened by a series of horrifying natural disasters. A bold young hunter named Torka, who lost his wife and child to a killer mammoth, leads the survivors over the glacial tundra on a desperate eastward odyssey to save their clan. Through attacks of savage animals and encounters with strangers not unlike themselves, they must brave the hardships of a goreign landscape and learn to live in an exotic new world of mystery and danger. Beyond the Sea of Ice, toward a new day for their clan-and an awesome future for the Americans.

This is actually an accidental second copy I received, but I've started the first copy and find it generally a little too romanticized and flowery compared to others of the genre. This is a North American analogue to Jean Aul's Cave series on prehistoric Europe; I liked them better, so far.
This set of books are well used there are no torn pages
