Futuristic romance by Jess Granger. Cyani is an Elite warrior from Azra. She is on her last assignment, after which she'll return home, join the upper echelons of her society, and try to keep her family safe. But, she finds and frees a rare slave. Her Team is forced to leave without her, and she ends up trying to keep herself and Soren safe. The problem is that Cyani is supposed to stay celibate, and Soren emits strong pheremones. This is an exciting, pretty well written adventure. The characters are likeable, there are plenty of obstacles for the lovers, and interesting twists. Good Book. I'm sure there will be a sequel.

Very SF good read. Great action, complex world building and memorable characters you would like to know. The plot was intense and page turning, the romance was enduring and touching.

On Cyani's last mission she is caught behind enemy lines while trying to free a very special prisoner from the slave pens. She and the rescued slave first hide together and then steal a ship and escape together only to land on a relatively primitive planet. The pasts and futures of Cyani and Soren are slowly exposed. Her culture's requirements clash with his biological necessities...

This is a first novel with a sequel [BEYOND THE SHADOWS] due out in May 2010... It ends with the setup for book 2 - which I have already on pre-order!

I really liked this book. I tried this author due to a favorable book review. It is in the style of Susan Grant with space ships and lots of action and unusual characters. The action starts on page one and continues at a steady pace. A Union of different worlds, each with distinctive people very well drawn. A warrior heroine, Captain Cyani, with a don't touch me attitude who rescues a prisoner, Soren a Byralen with a need for touch to stay alive. An evil enemy who tries to enslave the unique people in the Union. During the rescue, they crash land on a remote Union outpost. Captain Cyani, needs to get back to her world, Azra, in order to keep her twin brother safe from the Queen of the Celibate Sisterhood who seems unusually harsh toward Cyani's family. Resolving the conflict was inevitable, it is a romance after all but gettting there was adventurous and fun. We meet Cyani's twin who is a complex man and I hope his story is next. With all the interesting people there are lots of stories to choose from for a great series.
