I really enjoyed book 1, Marked, I thought it had some great lessons for teenagers that everyone faces. But what I found really intriguing is that the lessons are written in a manner that does not scream hey you, this is what you should do but are couched in a fun fast paced story that teenaged girls will enjoy.

In Betrayed the lessons are continued, I thought the ones in this book were better than in Marked (all about being different and not giving into what the in crowd when you know they are wrong). This book explores what it feels like to like more than one boy at a time, and how one should appropriately handle it. Once again it does not scream or preach the correct action. Betrayed also lets the reader in on the fact that not everyone is who they appear and how to guard yourself against this.

The hardest lesson this book looks into is the loss of a loved one. This particular story line (lesson) looks like it will be continued into book three which I am very anxious to read.

The mother daughter writing team has really hit a homerun. Now that the main characters are coming into their own special talents the book and series has just got more interesting. ROMANCE:Even though this is a YA series there is still a very powerful love triangle with the possiblity of having a 3rd love interest. NOt a dull moment for Zoey Redbird. A very good series I would reccommend to anyone.

All I can is that I love this book. I do not envy Zoey at all for all the things she has to deal with at such a young age...when i was that age I had to worry about the next spirit day. I love that she is so young yet so mature (at times) in the way she tries to rationalize with her self. Can't wait for the next one.

I liked this book much better than book one (Marked). Liking this series much more than I thought I would. It's the type that stays with you even when you are not reading, making you want to get back to your book! Just started book 3 (Chosen).

This book is classified as young adult. It deals with teenagers going through the "change" to become vampyres. I am far from being a young adult, but the characters are very endearing, and I find myself having trouble putting the book down. This is the second book of the series, and it is as good, if not better, than the first.

Eventhough I didn't like the first book in this series [book:Marked: House of Night Book 1|7326575], I selected this book because of a challenge to give a book or author another chance. I realize that it's a young adult book but it just seems too childish, too high schooly for my tastes. Now having said that, I must admit that about half way through this one, I started to enjoy it. The high schooly stuff ended and though the characters are still teenagers, they stopped all the high schooly BS.

I was shocked that in a teen novel, this comment was made by a 16 year old girl to an openly gay teenage boy.

"he likes breasts and vaginas, not penises and anu..."

Also there seems to be a confusion of grown up and childish cursing. There is a lot of cursing which is surprising but on the other hand things like poo-less are said instead of shitless. I wish the authors would make up their minds if these are "grownup" teenagers or not.

I like that the characters stick together and are there for Zoey when she needs them and that she is there for her friends. I think Zoey's boyfriend situation - she's vasillating between three boys - is very true to life and fits with the whole high school thing. It will be interesting to see who she picks - Loren (the teacher), Heath (the human) or Erik (the fledgling).

I like the moral choices that are offered to Zoey and her friends and how they respond. I like that everything isn't always perfect and going their way. I like that there is adversity which will make Zoey (and her friends) stronger people. I even like Aphrodite. Yeah she's done bad things but I think she's gotten a bad rap because the High Priestess has it in for her. I just hope that the cliquey high schooly crap is done with. Either way, I think I will read book three in the series. I'd like to find out what happens to Stevie Rae and with Heath.

Being a 38 year old woman, I was not too sure about reading another "teen" book series (The Twilight Saga being the first). I loved this series almost as much as the Twilight saga. This series has a very different take on vamps but is still great! I have referred and even lent my books to my 14 year old to read. Very captivating series! It keeps you wanting to read more and more! It was very hard putting the books down!! A definite read for anyone who enjoys The Twilight Saga.

All of the House of Night books are really good. The way the characters act and think can be immature, but I still enjoyed the plot line. I've read them all, and can't wait to until the next one comes out!

P.S. - The setting is in Oklahoma, which I thought was really cool.. since I'm from there and all.

I only got this book because of the setting in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I lived there for seven years and I liked the idea of knowing where everything was at. It's not really all that different from other vampire books. Got bored after the second book. I guess it's good if you don't want there to be much depth to your reading.

This was another great journey into the lives of the teenagers at the House of Night. I am in total love with this world. The school is amazing, the characters witty and strong and the second installment in this series I believe is stronger than the first (and I really liked the first one as well!) Come along and learn more about Zoey, Stevie Rae, Erin, Shaunee, Damien, Erik and Aphrodite, along with some other new faces. The friendships are strong still and honor is important among the group of friends, they watch out for each other and others they deem important (which is most everyone but Aphrodite). More comes to light in this book about the House of Night and the characters, but I don't want to say too much and give something away. Just know if you enjoyed the first one, you will enjoy this one. I kind of knew where the whole thing was going, but didn't expect the way it got there, so it was a fun and interesting read. It kept me reading and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Now I can't wait to see what happens in Chosen.

If you enjoy a strong teen heroine who still has some self-doubt (as we all do) then you will enjoy this series and this book. The Casts make a great team for these books and I can see why they are such a hit!

I started reading book 1 of the House of the Night, in error (did'nt realize it was a young adult read). But it drew me in. Loved book 1 & 2 now I have to find out what happens next in the "Vampire High/Finishing School known as House of the Night. So... here I am waiting to get book 3 and 4 and 5 etc. Excellent and original story line. Easy fast read. Very entertaining. Nothing explict but deals with dating and relationships. Apropriate for Age 16 and up.

Very mediocre with a rather obvious betrayal; the best bit involves Stevie Rae and it would have been more affecting if the authors had written the text so that more time had elapsed between the first and second books, so the relationship between the friends would be more believable. The "Twins" also irritate me greatly.

This one started off slow, but after about fifty pages, I was captivated. I believe the reason the beginning was slow was because it basically just went over everything that happened it the last book. However, once the story got going, I couldn't put the book down. It's a really emotional book, and deals with a wide range of themes including death, and as the title suggests, betrayal. The loyalty among Zoey's group never falters though, and it really strengthens the book. I thought this one was a lot better than the first, and it'll be great if the series keeps getting better.

Outstanding series. Keeps you wanting to go on even though you have other things to do (like dishes and laundrey). For a YA series, it really has a lot of details and excitement for adults. Definatly recommend the entire series, though I think Betrayed was the more all engrossing book for me.

Leagues better than the first book! I was actually captured by the storyline. The characters, although still slightly annoying in their stereotype personas, are starting to grow on me. Surprisingly enough, I'm really looking forward to the third book!

I have read the first book in the series, and subsequently ordered the 2nd in the series. Now I'm definitely hooked and have acquired the rest of the books in the series. I think the first book was great, but the second seemed even better than the first. Leaves you at a cliffhanger to read the next in the series!! New take on Vampires!! Whole new way of becoming one!

Betrayed, the second book in the House of Night series, picks up where Marked left off-Ater a bit of a slow start, Betrayed picks up nicely around fifty pages in or so.

While I did enjoy Betrayed more than I initially thought I would, it could do with a bit of housecleaning to rid itself of too much coincidence and too little realistic interaction among the teens.

But in general I did enjoy the story and I still like the whole idea of The House of Night and creepy undead creatures and people who aren't what they seem to be.

I will read at least the next book in the series to see how the writing progresses. I'm curious to see.

This wasn't quite as good as the first and they got to the suspenseful aspects of this book in a quick manner. Although I was hoping for more mystery, the book still was a good and quick read. Sets up the next book nicely, even though I think that too much was revealed in this book and could have been saved for the next.

kitchenvampire avatar reviewed Betrayed (House of Night, Bk 2) on + 70 more book reviews
This series surprised me. It is marketed to teens and written about teen vampires, but the books have a more mature theme and dialogue to them than most of the books of the teenage genre. Written in the first person, it does give a more clear idea of what is going on in the main character's head. There are a lot of creepy elements including dark magic, invoking evil spirits and blood rituals. Warning: the characters in this book are teenagers who are quite promiscuous (even includes teacher/student and child/adult sexual relationships). Good story, good writing, not a great idea for young teenagers or those that would be offended by the sex and dark magic issues.

Betrayed is the second thrilling book in The House of Night Series. I was hopelessly hooked on this series by the end of Marked, but Betrayed has only served to pull me into the series even more. We join up with Zoey and her friends again a month after we last left her in Marked. She has settled into her school nicely, and is now fretting about the other issues that seem to follow her around wherever she goes. The biggest one seems to be boy troubles.

Zoey Redbird who was so worried about fitting in at her new school has more boys than she can handle. I cant help but laugh a little bit, because on top of the usual Teenage Hormones poor Zoey also has to deal with the hormone changes that happen when youre a Vampyre. It would seem (and this goes with other books as well) they are very Sexual creatures, and much of that drive is connected to their blood lust and drinking. So poor Zoey finds herself Imprinted with her ex Heath, very loving towards her current Beau the handsome and talented Erik Night, and a teacher Loren Blake the talented vampire Laurent. Oh my!

As if that wasnt bad enough Zoey will face trials like she hasnt before, she looses a good friend, and somebody is killing are teenagers. The killings to crop up and play a bit of a part of the story line, but over all they are background to Zoeys loss, as well as her trials with the boys in her life and of course changing the Dark Daughters. The final blow to poor Zoey comes when someone she looks up to and nearly worships becomes something else. From light to dark. It is a powerful blow, but Zoey and her Goddess given gifts find away to keep going.

Betrayed is an emotionally charged read and I found myself crying as I read it. But I also could not put the book down as it was so good. Some of the themes are a little more adult than I would expect for a young adult novel, but nothing to over the top. Just beware you should probably pre read it before you let your young adult read it. It is a great second book in the series.

Having defeated her arch-nemesis in the previous book, MARKED, Zoey should be on top of the world. But she's got the nagging feeling in the back of her mind that something's drastically wrong. At first, she thinks it could be all the stress she's under from her first ritual she's planning, or maybe the various boys in her life. She admits she's worried about the boys from her old school who have turned up missing.

Then Zoey witnesses a conversation between Aphrodite and Neferet that leaves her breathless. Now Zoey's scared.

Zoey needs her friends more than ever, but she's not too sure whom she can trust.

The mother-daughter team of P.C. and Kristin Cast creates another suspenseful tale with a down-to-earth character blessed with magical powers. Fans of the Stephenie Meyer books are sure to gobble up this series.

I'm writing this review not to review writing ability, but rather to warn against a number of issues that disturbed me about this book. I realize we all have different moralities & what bothers me will not bother many, but...for people who are like me & would be disturbed for their teen to read elements like this...this review is written in order for them to know what they are getting. Disturbing elements: lots of cursing, underage drinking, strong anti-religion (except for paganism), anti-step parent, pro-homosexuality, promiscuity, statutory rape (child/adult sex), worship of goddesses.
As I said, these elements will not bother some people, and I don't pretend to know what's best for others, but I like to know these things before *I* get a book, so I submit these warnings for other like-minded people who would want to steer their children/themselves clear of these elements.

I'm really glad that I started reading this series. The story in this book was very interesting and the twist with the villain makes me eager to read more. Granted, there are a few small problems that won't be notice by most, but for the most part the plot is really well-done.

*Spoilers* I am giving this book 4 stars only because of 1 of the characters dying. I did not want Stevie Rae to die. I was soooooooo very sad. She was one of my favorite characters.
Favorite Characters:
Zoey Redbird
Stevie Rae
Dameon
Erik
I didnt really care for Aphrodite which I liked her better in this book than in the last one. Neferat I didnt care for either. I knew there was something that wasnt right about her. There were a couple new characters Erik's new roommate which Dameon is very fond of. I dont know much about. Im not too sure I like the way they did the "undead" characters which is where Stevie Rae is now. But Im not surprised Neferat is involved in that. Also 2 characters that died in the book and Heath almost dying. Wow. Also Zoey having all the abilities that Nyx gave her. She gave her alot of powers and all her group of friends get to help Zoey out with their abilities I really enjoyed. I cant wait to start the next book. To see where Zoey and her friends end up.
