# 12 in the JD Robb/Nora Roberts series.
Well, though I tend to like the "In Death" series, this one wasn't my favorite. I thought the plotline was a little heavy handed, and the villains were fairly obvious. I was never surprised and felt that the characters should have been able to find the origin of the threat much sooner.
This is my least fave of the books, so far, but its still worth a read if you've already got some sympathy for the characters, but, if you haven't read the series, despite the fact that they are all good stand alone novels and don't require you to have read them in order, I wouldn't start with this one.
Not that they're not all pretty good, but best books I've so far read in this series IMHO are #1 Naked In Death, #21 Origin In Death, #9 Loyalty In Death, and #18 Divided In Death...even #19 Visions In Death.

Love this series and this book in the series is no disappointment. Loved it.
The J.D. Robb series is the best!
Detective Eve Dallas investigates a homicide on familar ground, her husband's hotel.
This book as well as the whole series of J. D. Robb's "In Death" books are absolutely superb. I like them because they're a combination of romance, crime, futuristic, drama books.

excellent part of the series
Great Read
I really enjoy this series with Eve Dallas. This is book #12 in the series. A little romance, mystery, and a woman with guts!
Great book!
Great book! Couldn't put it down - it's a series that can't be beat!
It's Eve Dallas, Roarke, Peabody and the whole gang.....good read!
At the luxurious Roarke Palace Hotel, a maid walks into suite 4602 for the nightly turndown---and steps into her worst nightmare. A killer leaves her dead, strangled by a thin, silver wire. He's Sly Yost, a virtuoso of music and murder. A hit man for the elite. Leutient Eve Dallas knows him well. But in this twisted case, knowing the killer doesn't help solve the crime. Because someone else involved. Someone with a more personal motive. And Eve must face a terrifying possibility---the real target may, in fact, be her husband, Roarke....
Eve Dallas futuristic mystery.
I loved this book. It was so hard to put down once I started reading it. All of the J.D. Robb boopks were like that for me. They keep you involved until the very end. If you love some suspense with a touch of what could be many years down the road you will love this book.
Robb/Roberts "In Death" series improves with every book. A good read :)
4.5 stars
Since I am reading the entire series from start to finish I'd say that I must really enjoy the writing, characters and story lines. The character development from book-to-book is excellent and the humor is spot on. I find the futuristic theme fun, especially since many of the terms used have been created by the author but seamlessly fit in! Great job.

another character from Roarke's past in Ireland.
Nora Roberts is an excellent writter.
Everyone knows her books are always great reads.

This book was good, but if I were reading it as a stand alone, I don't think I would be in a hurry to read another in the series. There was really not too much of a surprise on who the bad guys are. Because I am trying to read the series in order, I could tie it with the earlier books and in that context enjoy it. Now onwards to book 13.
I love powerful Eve Dallas and how the complex New York crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30 stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York is like this, I fear these killers who are sneaky and complex.
Eve's fear for her husband makes her all the more human, and I like that about this book. Love the series.
I've enjoyed all the previous books and this one was just as good. Looking forward to the rest of them.
Another Eve Dallas case. If you've read the earlier books, you won't be disappointed in this one. If this is your first read, go back and read them in order. You won't be sorry!
Can J.D. Robb wright a bad book
Excellent story line all the way to the end.
I don't know if anyone enjoys the Lt.Eve Dallas books as much as I do. Set in the future it is fun to imagine what will be. Great entertainment. She has several "in Death" books, I hope to read them all.
Great read, love this series.

Loved it! Great story as usual...
great mysterty thriller one of the books in J.D. ROBBS IN DEATH SERIES
These books should be read in order but do give enough background to make you familiar. I love the J.D. Robb series.
I'm still loving this series after all these years. I read the first two in order and have been reading the others out of order as I find them in my piles of books ;) There is always enough backstory to catch me right up (and never too much to bore me).
Lt. Eve Dallas is investigating a series or murders. The only thing that ties the murders together is that both victims worked for her husband, Roarke. Fearing that Roarke may be the actual target of the killer, Eve wants to keep him out of the picture. Roarke has other ideas and talks Eve into letting him help as a civilian consultant.
Another interesting addition to the "In Death" series. These books never disappoint.

A known hit man is murdering people Roarke is concected to. Eve must figure out why and who the real target might be.
I had given this book a B+ on my personal rating scale. It is always good to read another Eve and Roarke adventure...just like visiting with old friends again. This book was just as good as any of her other ones. Nothing to extrodinary but certainly not bad. When it appears that Roarke is a target for a hitman Eve does everything in her power to protect him. Of course Roarke has other ideas...thinking that if it is him that is being targeted...Eve might just be next in line to get hurt. There is a little bit of a twist towards the end that was a little bit shocking. The mystery aspect of the book was fair but then I personally don't read these books for the mystery anyway.
Excellent Series, read them in order
Eve is up against a hit man for the elite, whose next target may be her own husband, Roarke.
J.D. Robb is also Nora Roberts. As J. D. Robb she writes futuristic crime stories with Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke as the heros. They appear in every novel and they are consistently well written and detailed.
Really love this series. All of the books are always action-packed and exciting and this one is no different!
Can't get enough of Eve Dallas, always a great read
When Darlene French, a maid at the Roarke Palace Hotel, is brutally beaten, raped, and strangled with a silver wire, Eve is at a loss to explain the apparently professional nature of the murder. Who would hire a hit man to kill such an ordinary woman? As she and her team of detectives (with a little grudgingly accepted help from Roarke, whose money, name, and talents can dig up a wealth of information) investigate the evidence, they find themselves in pursuit of Sylvester Yost, a vicious hired gun who's made millions in his bloody pursuit of career excellence. But it isn't until more victims appear that Eve realizes Yost's real target is Roarke himself. To discover the driving force behind the murderous campaign, Eve and Roarke will have to delve into their own pasts, which holds secrets and terrors for them both.
Once again Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb does a superb job.
excellent
Wow, what can you say about Roberts (Robb)! Another winner!
Love this series! They never disappoint. Sex, murder, cool characters, snappy dialogue. I am always waiting for the next one to come out.
Hard to put this down. Great stories of Lt. Eve Dallas, female cop.
One of the series of Eve Dallas detective novels. Tracking a professional killer and the people who hired him.
this book is nora roberts writing as j.d. robb. it is a good book, i enjoyed it
The book was a mystery, romance and thrilling through out. Once i picked it up I wanted to read more and more to see what would happen next. Love the book. She is a good writer. Enjoyed it very much.
Another one of the IN Death series books....very good....well written...this is a really good series.
Great as always :)
excellent, excellent I love this series
Excellent read, as all of the In Death books are!
Another great read.
The stories just get better and better,
At the luxurious Roarke Palace Hotel, a maid walks into suite 4602 for the nightly turndown---and steps into her worst nightmare. A killer leaves her dead, strangled by a thin, silver wire.
Love Eve Dallas
If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.
I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.
