Good girls don't, Bad girls do, and the best girls do it for the money.
Be warned: This is no tart-with-a-heart, Pretty Woman-style, faux boundary-baiting, tailored for the Middle American. Belle stares challengingly at the reader and never blinks first. Sometimes filthy, often lyrical, always uncompromising and intelligent.
That rare and wonderful thing: a fearless and witty revelation of one woman's sexuality.
It's not unusual in the literary world for women to sleep with sleazy, middle-aged men in order to get a b ook deal. But Belle is the only one I know who got paid for it.

DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY. I thought this book would be more about how she became a call girl, but instead it's a play-by-play of the things she enjoys doing both while "working" and in private.

I picked this up on a whim when I started to become interested in human sexuality.
Fantastic. Opened up a whole world for me of books about people willing to tell their sex-life stories. Well written too.
Detailed and sensual enough to be considered erotic, but also witty, fun, and all true. Loved it.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but it caught my interest and held it. This book is fun and witty, though at times a little graphic. That said it was well written and worth reading.

Please be aware: this is practically PORN. It's a good story, and even more interesting knowing that it's a real person living somewhere in London - but it's extremely racy.

I read this book after finishing the television series based on it, and I found myself liking the show much more. Some parts were fun to read, while others were boring.
Originally published as an anonymous blog, Belle de Jour: Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl chronicles approximately six months in the life of a £300 per hour escort in London. It centers on her social life, with her working life mentioned in passing (but with lots of detail). The action centers around a coterie of exes referred to as N and A1-4, and her attempts at finding love with various aptly nicknamed prospects. Billed as a college grad without any promising job prospects who turns to her non-mainstream sexual interests to make a living and support her addiction to lingerie, this bio is not far from the truth: in 2009 Belle revealed herself to be Dr Brooke Magnanti, a biostatistician who worked as a prostitute for 14 months after submitting her PhD thesis. The writing was an engaging look at one woman's sexuality, although it started to falter at the end.
