I tried to like this book, honest I did, but I was just plain bored by it. Obviously, there was plentiful research behind this book, which was interesting, but the story was so predictable that one-quarter of the way through I just gave up. I read her first book, The Outsider, as well and while I made it through that one, this one just left me wanting so much more.

Very interesting, made me want to look into the Shakers beliefs on the internet. My curiosity was aroused in their beliefs, their desire for a peaceful God filled life yet somehow missing the point of family and fellowship. Completely compelling
