Julian Fellowes really knows how to tell a story! This book is a fine example. He deftly weaves a story about an Earl and his family with a businessman who longs for social success and his family. This book is as rich in characters as Downton Abbey is. I look forward to reading more of his work. I highly recommend this book.
This was like reading a season of Downton Abbey. Good story, good characters, intrigue. Everything was there and period setting. Could absolutely picture it on the screen.
I love Downton Abbey, but this book really left me cold. The characters are not well developed and have no lives outside of the pages of the book, and the plot drags. I hope Fellowes sticks to developing TV shows, but I probably won't be reading another novel by him.
