Story about a woman who makes it her life's work to solve cold cases by finding missing people. She travels from place to place, never settling down, no lingering ties with anybody, basically with just the shirt on her back and her own personal demons. (Shades of Jack Reacher.) I don't read much Gardner books anymore and now I know why

I thought when I started this one it would be a good story and maybe it was I didn't finish it--why?

1. MC spends too much time thinking about herself and it's just a pity party page after page, she is a recovering alcoholic but good grief does it have to be repeated page after page?
2. story is just too slow and doesn't get anywhere by the 100 page mark? not my kind of reading but I trudged on, even after they finally got a 'hint' to follow it was just more dragging out of her pity party and then the cop gets involved etc.

This not my kind of reading---slow and draggy
