I can't say enough about this book. I couldn't put it down, but was forced for lack of sleep to finish it in two nights. If anyone wants to know what it feels like to grow up a tomboy, understand you're gay, be outed and suffer the consequences, grow up alone, then fall in love for the first and last time in your life, then read this book. Written in the first person, Stevens' brings you into Bobbie's life and you never want to leave. I was disappointed when I finished the book -- I wanted to continue on in Bobbie's life with her. I laughed out loud, cried, smiled, became angry -- every emotion I read in those pages came out in me. What a great book. If you have the opportunity to get it, don't hesitate. It's one I'll keep and read again and again. I thank R. J. for enriching my life.
