Lizzie Velasquez is a Communications major at Texas State University in San Marcos. She is one of only three individuals in the world known to have an undiagnosed syndrome that prevents the body from gaining weight or creating muscle. This syndrome, which is known to affect only two others worldwide, has made her life a study in contradictions. She eats whatever she wants, yet cannot move a weigh scale past 60 or so pounds. In a time when many people change their appearance in order to feel accepted, she has accepted herself with extraordinarily positive self-esteem. Her attitude, not her syndrome, is contagious.
She is a motivational speaker who has presented more than 200 workshops and co-author of the autobiographical, Lizzie Beautiful. Her story has been featured on the Today Show, Dr. Drew (HLNtv), Catholic Radio, and Inside Edition. Though fragile on the outside, Lizzie has proven to have outstanding courage and has become an inspirational figure for young adults affected by bullying and self-esteem problems.« less
