4 women bonding to help each other survive life-we all need that!
Helpful Score: 1
The women began as strangers: Rita has a past that can't stay hidden for long, Katie the rock star has to choose between saving her own life or the life of her unborn child, Hannah, a selfless housewife, finds herself abandoned by her friends just when she needs them most and Faye, a wealthy businesswoman, thinks she has already fought the battle of her life. Before the summer is over, these four women will form a lasting bond - one that will see old hurts finally healed, love rekindled and new life created.
I really enjoyed this book. I do like stories that involve women's friendships with each other. I give this book an A+!

At first I thought I was not going to enjoy it because the subject matter seemed a bit depressing. However, I'm glad I continued with it. Very enjoyable and not depressing at all.

What a wonderful book on friendship and the power of women friends, a great book to take along on vacation.
Very good book! A real tear jerker!
First timr that I have read one of her book- good read
Spirited Rita has lived on Martha's Vineyard all of her life and would do anything to help the Vineyard community. So when Doc Hastings asks her to run a support group for women with breast cancer, Rita agrees, even though she has no medical training and has not been affected by breast cancer herself. The group consists of Katie, the pregnant rock goddess who must make some serious decisions; Hannah, the housewife who is so used to taking care of everyone else she's forgotten how to take care of herself; and Faye, the wealthy socialite who feels that she has nothing to live for. When these very different women come together, they slowly begin to form a bond based at first on their cancer and then on experiences of motherhood, marriage, strained family relationships, and long-buried secrets. As Stone's characters face the hardships of illness and life, they turn to each other for support, guidance, protection, and unconditional love. Rich in both humorous moments and sobering turns, Stone's novel shows that true friendship knows no bounds.

A wonderful story about hope, friendship and love among friends during the reality and struggles with cancer.
Excellent book, entwining lives of different women as they all deal with their life by escaping to Martha's Vineyard. Before the end of summer they will form an everlasting bond that will keep them all afloat.
As a woman you will appreciate the unlikely friendships formed in this novel. Very well written.
It's great story anxious to read more of her stuff. The characters are wonderful. Another good novel about friendships between women.
This is the first book that I have read by Jean Stone but I have to say that this book was a hard one to force myself to finish. It was very slow and just not something that grabbed my attention and drew me in. I felt that the story was just trying to follow too many story lines to do any of them a real justice. Too many main characters and too hard to follow what their stories were.
This was in my TBR pile for years and years, so I was glad to finally read it with a few pals in my online book club, The Reading Cove!
The story starts off pretty starkly with the women coming together in a cancer support group, but as you spend time with them, you come to care about what's going to happen. This is a meaty story, with lots of conflict and secrets coming out, but it's very well-written and engaging. The ending was a little sappy for my tastes, but I can overlook that. ;-) Good read! I look forward to more by Jean Stone.
