I have read several books form this author over the past few weeks, and have loved them all. This one may be my least favority. Yes, I still read the whole book in one day, but it was a bit slow. The two love interests were barely in the same room together. I had to skim through the last half of the book. Not really the one for me. I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read her other books, and had my expectations set so high.

Don't let the picture fool you, this is not a Harlequin Romance. This was a fun read but not Ms. Heyer's best. It was a little predictable, but never boring. It is well paced and I would recommend it to someone who just wants a fun, frivolous read.

A quintessential Heyer. A charming, sweet period romance.

Short & Sweet Review: What I liked? The main characters were not at all conventional. What it lacked? Tenderness that I so love! I wanted a better ending... (sigh) Don't get me wrong it was romantic of sorts, just something was missing...

Serena's father dies and his will makes the Marquis of Rotherham her guardian -- a man she was once betrothed to and who she now can't stand.

This is a totally delightful Georgette Heyer romance...one of her best (and she has many great ones.) Her heroine, Serena Spenborough, is intelligent, capable, strong-willed, and, of course, beautiful. When her father dies, he leaves her considerable inheritance under the trusteeship of her ex-fiance. She moves to Bath with her step-mother, the lovely, but timid, Fanny (who is younger than Serena) and adventures ensue.
It is a wonderful escape from real life. Enjoy!!

Lady Serena Carlow is an acknowledged beauty, but she's got a temper as fiery as her head of red hair. When her father dies unexpectedly, Serena discovers to her horror that she has been left a ward of Ivo Barrasford, marquis of Rotherham, a man whom Serena once jilted and who now has the power to give or withhold his consent to any marriage she might contemplate. With her father's heir eager to take over his inheritance--and Serena's lifelong home--she and her lovely young stepmother, Fanny, decide to move to Bath, where Serena makes an odd new friend and discovers an old love, Major Hector Kirkby. Before long, Serena, Fanny, Kirkby, and Rotherham are entangled in a welter of misunderstood emotions, mistaken engagements, and misdirected love.
Georgette Heyer's genius has always been in creating memorable characters, then placing them in a comedy of manners that is absolutely true to the Regency period. Bath Tangle is a delightful romp through the haute ton of early-19th-century England, and the battling, passionate, meant-for-each-other Ivo and Serena are one of her most successful romantic duos.
