They do not conclude that the principles are universal everlasting ideas or transcendental truths but rather that they are reflective guidelines and important values today. They are clarifying the conceptual, philosophical and cultural background of four values or normative ideas that people often use and they find important for their life existence. - The book gives an overview of facts and opinions on the basic principles in different European countries, while indicating limits to the possible uses of the principles and they present their proper philosophical views on the matter. - The volume also contains the partners' Policy Proposals to the European Commission, the socalled Barcelona Declaration, unique as a philosophical and political agreement between experts in bioethics and biolaw from many countries in Europe. --- Volume 2 contains the individual research results as reported by the individual partners in the project. The book indicates the scope and variety of the partners' research interests, as well as their different conceptions of the basic ethical principles. - It collects some of the best of the project contributions by individual partners. It shows the variety of views held by the partners, and it should indicate the many different angles the partners' research provided. - In addition to the presentation of the partners' research reports, the book contains the contributions from some of the Guest Lecturers that took part in the meetings of the Biomed Research projects.« less
