Incredibly good... and just how can a book on economics be that good? I found myself excited to understand more clearly as I read, and anxious to start reading again as soon as I could.
Thomas Sowell starts with a very simple definition of economics "The allocation of scarce resources which have alternative uses." He builds from there. He doesn't make value judgements about what should be done, but simply explains the facts of what happens when particular choices are made. He reminds the reader that intentions are different than results, and he provides examples to support his explanations.
He touches on every aspect of economics and the whole book is a step by step explanation that could probably be understood by a 12 year old (although the implications may be more difficult to understand.) This is a book about how things work. Lots of examples from various periods of history and from different countries. Sowell is a really smart guy and he explains things very clearly. I think every American should read this book.
