A very nice book and no wishes for it by PBS comrades. But I will take it to the old soldiers' home where I know a WWII vet will take a look and if no one carries it off, there is a staffer who likes this sort of stuff.
It features a great many color photos of extraordinary customized autos, such as were pioneered by Sam and George Barris. Interesting commentary accompanies each double page spread of the vehicles.
The first pages are the Barris' telling how they got started with their shop in the SE part of LA County after the war. That was a prosperous time and place, given the jobs available at Firestone, GM, etc. etc. Today it is a place of small cities (often run by Latino boodlers) with little in the way of jobs and large families on the jam packed streets.
The copy I found on the 'free' book truck at the branch library is much read!
