An eerie, suspenseful tale of a serial killer, centering on the abduction of a young woman in a wealthy community in New Jersey. A psychological thriller that moves at a quick pace to a surprising conclusion.

I prefer author's upstate New York locations, but this New Jersey location fitted the story. Like all of Oates's books, the whole thing comes together at the end. Also like her books, it is the characters and their emotions that intrigue the reader. Not my favorite of her books, but well written and certainly a worthwhile read.
