Being in the military myself I was looking forward to reading this book but I was very disappointed. The author's writing style is awful and distracted me from the very important stories in the book. I finished reading it because I felt I would be doing a disservice to these women if I didn't. While some stories were not so deserving of being in the book (PO3 Lillie) most were very inspirational (Sgt DiCaprio, Gunny Mayo and pretty much everyone else). Also, not all services were fairly represented. The author seemed to lean towards Marines. This is understandable considering it is the hardest branch of the military and male dominated. Bottom line: while the writing is mediocre, the stories alone are definitely worth the read.

It was so interesting to hear about the stories of our women in combat, I wish there were more books like this.
