Well I have read 50 percent so far. This is an unusual book, it is an interesting read yet it does not hold my interest enough for me finish reading it. I am making it available and in the interim I may pick it upp and read the last half.

Gloria Naylor's message is always relevant no matter what is occurring in current events. She is honest, real and raw in her writing. She speaks truth to the American experience and no matter what your identity you can't help but reflect and be changed by her words. Although, she does not write for a light read, she writes with spirit and will allow you emotional and intellectual growth.

I love this book and have bought copies for a wide range of friends. The reason that it touched me is that it offered me an idea about heaven and salvation which was completely unique to my understanding of life. Gloria Naylor asks the question "How do you begin to imagine Heaven when you are mired in suffering and can't lift your eyes to the sky?". She creates a place where the desperate can heal enough to begin to dream and hope.
As I understand it,the only obstacle to salvation is a lack of hope. Bailey's Cafe is a place where the broken can lay down their despair and hope can find a place in their hearts.
Sad and lovely and wonderful. Read it and be uplifted!

Read for a college course. Blues theme follows throughout, very intriguing.
