Really enjoyed this horror/thriller. Some great engaging characters along with good story. Just right mixture of blood/guts/gore and sex! Would highly recommend this story.

Something is strange about the location "The Sanctuary" and the good guys all have serious weaknesses. The Bad Men are seriously BAD and no good outcome can be forseen. Connolly stirs the pot and starting at a slow simmer but you won't be able to leave the pot for if you do.. it will boil over. This story is a Gotcha and there is no way... one can put it aside until the last page is exposed and the magic in this brew brought forth. Recommed it as a thriller with a bit of the occult mixed in.

This wasn't quite what I expected - kind of a brutal thriller and ghost story involving "bad men" from the past and from the present. I would have preferred perhaps a bit different ending, but was satisfied in most respects. The title is appropriate as you won't more "bad" men then these were in their varying appetites. It's an entertaining and fast read.

I just love his books! He is such a wonderful writer! My only complaint is that this book was marketed as a stand-alone when characters do appear in other books (e.g, Sharon Macy is in _The Lovers_) - it's not a big deal, but I wish I had known that, as I would have read them in order. Still, this was a fascinating book with rich characters, an inventive plot and some terribly awful and sad happenings. I really enjoyed reading it. I can't wait to read another book by him - this was the last one of his that I hadn't read! It is going to be a looong wait for _The Whisperers_.

Great thriller combining history, native folklore and good plain seriel killing on an isolated island. Connolly has a way with a phrase and weaves all the mentioned aspects into a credible tale.

This author has the most vivid imagination. His tales keep me up at night. If you like action, psychological suspense, crime, and cops, this book is for you. Someone who enjoys Michael Marshall Smith will love John Connolly.

on the Maine island once known as Sanctuary, policeman Joe Dupree is the guardian of its secrets, keeper of its memories. He knows that Sanctuary has been steeped in carnage once, centuries ago, when its settlers were betrayed by its enemies and slaughtered. Now, a strange, otherwordly, evil is about to descend again

John Connolly has a gift for merging our "real" world with the paranormal. It was a nice change up from the normal crime drama I usually read.
