A wonderful, scarey, funny book about a little girl who meets a giant....but not just any giant a BFG--Big Friendly Giant! Your kids (especially boys) will love reading this book! Read to find out how a little girl and a friendly giant rid the world of evil giants!

Evidently not even Roald Dahl could resist the acronym craze of the early eighties. BFG? Bellowing ferret-faced golfer? Backstabbing fairy godmother? Oh, oh ... Big Friendly Giant! This BFG doesn't seem all that F at first as he creeps down a London street, snatches little Sophie out of her bed, and bounds away with her to giant land. And he's not really all that B when compared with his evil, carnivorous brethren, who bully him for being such an oddball runt. After all, he eats only disgusting snozzcumbers, and while the other Gs are snacking on little boys and girls, he's blowing happy dreams in through their windows. What kind of way is that for a G to behave?
The BFG is one of Dahl's most lovable character creations. Whether galloping off with Sophie nestled into the soft skin of his ear to capture dreams as though they were exotic butterflies; speaking his delightful, jumbled, squib-fangled patois; or whizzpopping for the Queen, he leaves an indelible impression of bigheartedness. (Ages 9 to 12)

I first heard of The BFG when I was in fourth grade. It was read to my class by our teacher. I loved it then, and after seeing it on a list of 50 top children's books I knew I had to read it again!

I'm so glad I did. On top of being a wonderfully entertaining story, it's a much deeper tale than I remember as a child. The book contains illustrations, though, the writing is vivid enough that you don't need them. It teaches a lesson about a humanity, and making new friends.
If you're reading this to your child (Ages 8 and up, though I think it's good for 8 and below) and you live in the United States, there are some terms you may have to explain, as it's set in England and Giant Country.

This is a great book! A great pick me up for adults who love to read more depressing books and a great book for a parent and child to share together.

The BFG is truly one of Roald Dahl's best books and a huge favourite at our house. It's a laugh out loud tale with all sorts of signature Roald Dahl silliness that will delight your kids.
Sophie, who is an orphan, catches a glimpse of something mysterious out of her window during the witching hour one night. Something mysterious and taller than the house across the street - a giant! So begins a wonderful friendship and a touching parable about what it means to be different and to be true to yourself. My 5 year old loves this book and we've read it over and over.

The BFG by Roald Dahl was a very touching book. The book showed a lot of friendship between a friendly giant and a little girl. At first the little girl named Sophie was deathly afraid of the BFG, but then as he showed her that he was nice they both became very fond of each other. I would recommend this book to people of all ages who are looking for a little bit of adventure and friendship.

The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off by the Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater, the Bonecruncher, or any of the other giants, she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that they are flush-bunking off to England to swallow a few nice chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

The best Roald Dahl book in my opinion. If you love Charlie and the Chocolate Facotry- you'll like this. My kids loved this in 4th grade.

An absolute MUST READ for every young child ages 6-10. My son and I were at the edge of our seats each night with the colorful way Dahl weaves his magic.

Very cute that there were aspects of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that were in this as well, granted it is nothing like it. I thought it was a cute story about a brave little girl and the BIG FRIENDLY GIANT who is willing to be kind to "human beans" while his 9 giant "friends" go off eating many human beings each night. What a fun story.

Very cute kids book. Your typical Roald Dahl book, and it can also be enjoyed by adults as well. Hence the wonders of Roald Dahl, like J.K. Rowling, he appeals to many generations.

A wonderful story, which, if made into a movie, children and their parents would love.

Later, in fact almost three years later to the day: They did make a movie from this book. I didn't see it but hope it went over well.
