Well, it was very different from the movie it inspired. I was prepared for that and I still didn't like it very much all told. I didn't care for Sophy because she seemed to have some kind of personality flaw. Obviously she was very concerned with making her mother happy and keeping up appearances, but then the outbursts and thoughts she had seem to contradict that. It just didn't work for me. The dialogue was a bit unnatural to me at times as well. (I find myself saying that rather often about British books, however, so take it with a grain of salt.) Honestly, I didn't really like the interactions between her and Josh very much. She was neurotic about her looks and practically delusional about how Josh viewed her. Was it the worst book I've ever read? Nope, not even close. It was enjoyable enough for me to finish it and give it 3 out of 5 stars. This is one time, however, where I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. For me, they took the best parts of the book and created the movie around that and really made it work. Of course, your mileage may vary. :)

This book was pretty good. I was expecting it to be more like the movie The Wedding Date but as it is said in a lot of the other reviews it is really different from the movie. It is a funny and enjoyable book.

I loved this book. The movie that was based on it was nothing like the book. The book was even funnier and I liked the ending more. I highly recommend reading this book.

This was the second time I read this book: the first time was when it was (evidently a reissue for a movie tie-in) published as "The Wedding Date", which starred Debra Messing and the ever delectable Dermot Mulroney. I think the book is better than the movie, but isn't that usually the case? (Except for Dermot, of course!) Anyhow, I re-read it even though I realized I'd already done so in the past, and it still made me laugh and roll my eyes and "tsk" at some of the idiocy. Nothing like a few twit characters that make you feel superior! And so, I obviously enjoyed it. A good read, nothing madly thought-provoking, just a pleasant, screwball romance.

Well now we know how "Open mouth, Insert foot" works out, or at least you will know once you read this humorus account of one women's tale of doing just that. A delightful and quick read.

OMG, this book was HYSTERICAL! I read it long before anyone heard of Wedding Date and as soon as I saw the trailer, I knew it was based on this book. I read it a 2nd time before seeing the movie and was sucked in just as easily the 2nd time around. One of the best chick lits out there, and Liz should get her due along with Green and Kinsella, et al!

Fun, quick read. Great "beach" book for summer vacation. Apparently, the movie The Wedding Date was loosely based on this book, that is why I picked it up to read originally.

A funny story of a single girl tired of being pressured by her family to find a man. The movie The Wedding Date is loosely based on this novel.
This book was funny and shows how one lie can lead to another. This was a relaxing, and quick read.
Once I got past the British slang, references to items I was unfamiliar with, etc. I liked this book alot. Sophy is a lovable, though neurotically self-conscious, girl & Josh is the perfect guy. Perfect, because no real guy would keep coming back like he did. You're so glad they finally get together in the end.

Oh, this was a pretty cute chick lit book - of course, it does seem to be the exact plot of a movie I saw on TV once, _The Wedding Date_, but with more family drama added in. Still, it was a very cute and entertaining way to spend the evening. I enjoyed _A Girl's Best Friend_ more, but this was pretty fun.

I enjoyed this book for the most part, but the author has a tendency to use the same idioms over and over, which gets irritating after a while.
Fun! Similiar to the movie "The Wedding date". I listen to the audio cassette and the english narrator really made the character come to life.

It was okay. Sophy the main character was over played a bit, or maybe I can only stand a character referring to herself as a 'fat cow' or her 'wobbly bit' so many times before I start to her as a whiner. Josh, the main male character, was unremarkable. While this book was based off the movie "The Wedding Date" the two were quit different, especially because the movie was rather charming.
But if you are looking for a quick read, with colorful British slang, this would be a good choice. If you also liked The Diary of Bridget Jones, this book was along the similar lines.

I loved this book! Sophy was a fun character and there was just something about Josh that I enjoyed. I hated Belinda from the beginning, and it didn't surprise me with how her part in the story turned out. After I finished the book I read that this is what the movie The Wedding Date was based on. I could see very very loose similarities, but just by the basic plot. I personally thought this book was better!
At thirty, Sophy is unmarried, and aside from her mother's near-constant hectoring, in no hurry to march down the aisle. To quiet the maternal angst, Sophy invents a boyfriend named Dominic and all is wellthat is, until her sister's wedding when she must produce the real thing. At the eleventh hour and in utter desperation, Sophy contacts an escort service. Attending the wedding with "Dominic," Sophy quickly realizes that there is no such thing as one little lie...and the fabrications escalate. When the bubbles from the wedding champagne evaporate, she discovers that she likes her escort as more than a convenient arm decoration. What to do? Turn lies into sighs...and a happily ever after.
I did not like this book. It is about dating in England.

I guess I didn't read enough of the review to catch that this book takes place in England. It was funny, I just prefer American characters, especially southern women.
