Second in the Hawkenlye Medieval Mystery Series. The characters of Helewise and Josse d'Acquin are further developed while solving a murder mystery in the forest. I enjoyed this book even more than her first because I felt I was getting to know the main characters better as well as following up on some of the minor characters of the first book. Am looking forward to reading more in this series.
A series of murders inside the dark forest shatters the peaceful Abby. Was it the night people who have lived in the forest for centuries? A very interesting and enjoyable book. I couldnt put it down until I finished.

The second book of the series brings Sir Josse to an estate near the Hawkenlye Abbey, Abbess Helewise and another series of mysterious deaths. As a fan of historic ecclesiastical mysteries, I am extremely happy to have found this well-written and plotted series - the characters have depth, the dialog is smart and well done, the twists and turns are plausible. Recommended (but start with the first book).
A series of mysterious and brutal murders deep inside the dark forest shatters the peaceful tranquility of the Hawkenlye Abbey. The sheriff of Tonbridge hastily blames the mythical Forest People and plans to execute the first available suspect. But when two young nuns begin wandering mysteriously into the forest at night and disappear, Abbess Helewise soon discovers a mystery that combines human treachery and otherworldly rituals. With the help of Sir Josse d'Acquin, a knight whose loyalty is matched only by his fearlessness, the Abbess enters the heart of the forest in search of its murderous secrets -- only to discover something even more terrifying...
This is a very mystery. Well written. Historical backdrop is lovely. These books are tough to find. Enjoy. The characters are very engaging.
