Ash Wednesday is a piercing new novel from multi-talented actor and writer (The Hottest State) Ethan Hawke about love, marriage, and renewal. Jimmy has gone AWOL from the Army, but he's about to embark on the biggest commitment of his life. Christy is pregnant with Jimmy's first child, and she's heading home, with or without Jimmy, to confront her past and prepare for her future. Barreling across America in a souped-up Chevy Nova, Christy and Jimmy are transformed from passionate but conflicted lovers into a young family on a magnificent journey.
Not as good as his first book but still a good read.
I enjoy Ethan Hawke as an actor so I thought I would give this book a read. It was a good premise but I just could not feel for the two main characters. Both had no redeeming qualities and I saw no reason to hope things worked out for them. I finished this book but it was a struggle. Maybe someone else will see something in it that I did not. Good luck!!
Good. I read it because I had read The Hottest State a few years back.
LARRY MCMURTRY: Ash Wednesday is a story of disorder and early sorrow, it succeeds because of a kind of rolling exuberance of style that carries one along a narrative freeway with no exits. once you're on, you're on.
Bought new, read once.
