This is the first book for this author that I've read. (Caris Roane pseudonym Valerie King) So far, the book remind me of JR Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood; from the good vampire -with wings- to bad vampire going after mortals. Scribe Virgin to Her Supremeness and almost as good. The book is pretty long and tried to skip but ended up going back to read it. Action from the beginning to end; Romance / Sex pretty Hot! All in all I give it 4 1/2 star. Can't wait for the next one...HAPPY SWAPPING EVERYONE!!!!

Awesome entrance into "Second Earth". Has great evil conflict, and hot group of Warrior good guys. Heroine is strong and smart. And the Warriors wear KILTS! Wow, vampires, with angel like wings and kilts.....what more could a girl ask for.
I can't wait to get the next book of this series.

This book was a breath of fresh air. I love the Brotherhood series from J.W. Ward, and I think they are a little similar but in a good way. Ascension is about a group of vampire warriors called Warriors of the Blood. They are an elite fighting unit of usually seven powerful warriors, each with phenomenal preternatural ability and capable of battling several death vampires at any one time. So you ask what are death vampires? Well they are any vampire male or female who partakes of dying blood automatically becomes a death vampire AKA the bad guys. This book is about Alison a woman who is an ascender and does not know how powerful she really is. She knows she's been different all her life and she has to answer the call of ascension. When she ascends she will become permanently a part of a dimension where she will fight of death vamps. So of course Kerrick has to be the hero and help her ascend. In J.W. Ward's book my only complain is the endless stories about Lash and the Omega. I browse through some of those sections, they are important for the book because they are the bad guys however IMO it's too much info. Here Greaves the main death vamp makes appearances but they are interesting and to the point. Also both writers have the whole smell thing going on when you find your brethren. This book is a great start to what I think will be a great series. It has potential to be right there along with the Brotherhood series.
Not much i can say on this one - i barely read 1/4 and i was turned off due to the language - i am by no means a religious fanatic but i cannot get into a book that uses 'God', 'Jesus', or 'Jesus H. Christ' in almost every other paragraph. Normal swearing, i can handle and in abundance - but this i could not stand - if you can handle such then this book may be fine for you. The Story was slow moving and at points things are mention without giving you a full description as to what something is - like the character's 'wing locks' - what is that? and 'folding' that you eventually learn is another for of 'de-materialization.' all in all i was not impressed with as far as i got.
This is the first book I read for this author. the story is good but It's long ,gets boring and repetitive. Reminds me of Lora Leigh breeds series and the mating heat.
This is my first book by Caris Roane, and I have to say it was good, not fantastic. I think it was a good story, I've heard people compare it to JR Ward's Brotherhood series. I can see that but it's not as good. I thought the book was about 100 pages to long and it was overkill with the I'm not worthy of his/her love, they'll only get hurt by being around me. blah blah. I am going to read her second book in the series Burning Skies. I hope it's better, because I do like the secondary male characters. They seem to have interesting personalities that I hope the author can do justice to.
This was a decent story. There are similarities to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The characters were well developed. I'm not normally a fan of romance books so the "steamy" scenes of the book were starting to work on my nerves after a while. There were slow parts to this book as well and I did find myself skimming over a lot of the narrative to get to the dialogue during the last 1/4 of the book because it seemed very repetative. Those things aside, this was a decent book. If you enjoy paranormal romance you will enjoy this book.
loved it, has almost the Lora Leigh and Larrisa Iones feel of writing
Alison has always been different. As she gotten older, these abilities have progressed and she starts to have weird dreams. Kerrick is a immortal vampire warrior; a Warrior of the Blood. His job is to protect Alison from those who would harm her.
This was an interesting and different concept of vampires. Certain groups of humans, who have abilities get a "call" to ascend and become an immortal vampire. With wings (these take time to grow). First Earth AKA Mortal Earth is, well, earth. Second Earth is where the vampires live and is earth, but another dimension of earth. Vampires who chose to kill their victims/prey are called death vampires. The Warrior fight these vampires. There are different levels, some characters are power hungry and will go to great lengths to get power.
I found myself more intrigued by the baddie, Darian Greaves then Alison or Kerrick. I was curious to learn more about him and his own motivations. Paranormal romance has a shortage of badass warrior women who don't give a fuck what anyone says and have power. That's Endelle, the leader/head of the Warriors. She's interesting too; I wanted to learn more about her.
Alison, fairly cookie cutter, has soooo much power and is perfect. She's attracted to Kerrick, but feels she can't have him because she might hurt him. Kerrick wants Alison, but can't be with her because Reasons. He's also the typical Alpha-hole how thinks "MINE, no one touch or look at her.!"
Not bad, not great. Average. Feel like book (461 pgs) could have used a trim.

Holy crap, what An amazing start to a series! It's been a while since I've found a new author to love, so I can't seem to stop smiling...
Over all the story is well written, fast paced, and pretty well developed. I only had 2 negatives: One is the lady in charge of the good guys is another abrasive femme fatale ..in other words a bitch...no, really, all the characters in the book call her a bitch.... She calls herself a bitch... And honestly? It's just really tiring...maybe if she'd had a smaller role I wouldn't have minded, but she's in a good chunk of the book....and her attitude just got on my nerves!
The second thing that bugged me was the amount of importance lent to the hero's now deceased second wife... I don't mind that she exists, just that so much of the relationship b/w the H and h seemed to revolve around her! And okay spoiler here
But the fact that the heroine wants to name their daughter after the second wife? a little to sweet for me to stomach.
But the book is a good length, a ton of stuff happens,is is pretty hot though not too graphic, at least not IMO) so despite the two (overall, minor) annoyances this was a killer first book in the 'World of Ascension' series.
